This board is getting incredibly big.

Vic, good chap, may I casually request something? It would be nice for players and spectators if you could number most/all files and ranks, so that it's easier to follow. That way, we don't have to count and recount the rows and columns with our fingers, as it takes up too much time to figure it out ourselves. It might even distract the players' tactics/strategy. And, it's frustratingly easy to lose track, considering how massive the play field has become.

Just a suggestion.

captaintugwash

It does get difficult to track, but for the most part, the precise location of my queen isn't relevant, all that matters is that it's on the 9th rank.

What does astound me is that I make far fewer typos playing infinite than I do playing bulldog. I guess that's because I have to count, instead of just glancing at the board.

By the way BattleChess, if it helps, the orange corners identify squares (1,1), (1,8), (8,1) and (8,8), ie the corners of a regular sized board. That helps me a lot.

BattleChessGN18

Ooo, but CaptainTugwash, my good man/gal (which ever gender you identify happy.png), it is very much relevant. Maybe it's not too apparent right now, because her walking abound free space with no benefits to give nor heavy hindrance to obstruct her makes it seem like the square doesn't matter. However, what happens when she comes back to proximity to other pieces? Then, we'd really regret that we didn't pay attention to the accuracy of her square. surprise.png

lol

edit - But, it seems like you and I view the minium numbering differently. It sounds like you thrive on having to find out the numbers yourself. I guess that makes just as much equal sense to the opposite.

Well, if it doesn't bother you, you're the player. So, I rest my suggestion. happy.png

And, yes, I realize the orange corner-square's ranks and files. I was more concerned about the Queen standong on 300, 4300 is all. tongue.png

Haha. Obviously it's important for the players to be aware of the precise location of the pieces, but if the queen is the only distant piece, it's not quite as important. HTP does need to be careful when he places his rook, for example, but vic will assist with that by drawing a line along the rank and diagonal to make the control of my queen more clear.

Numbering the squares is probably asking a bit much, it would require a fair bit of work every time the board expanded.

BattleChessGN18

Hehe how about copying and pasting the numbers in a separate img file to store for later use, when larger numbers are to be used? grin.png

I suppose if her royal asseshyte** is the only one wondering out of the Kingdom, than may be we wouldn't need to make a big deal. But, I say on the contrary, even one piece should be ienough to make us pay close caution to the squares.

**(She's not as big of a dick as the King, I'm sure. No R-rated pun intended. tongue.png tongue.png tongue.png)

I believe I’ve made a grave mistake.

No need to waste any more time. I resign. I lost when I blundered my material. Gg, tug. Good luck on the rest of this tournament.

BattleChessGN18

Great game, contestants.

Hope to see your E-handshake/first-pound. grin.png lol

gg HTP, yeah dumping your queen was a little bit of a blunder. You certainly weren't lost until then, but you were in trouble. Now it's hopeless. Thanks for the game!

captaintugwash

And once again, thanks for modding Vic.

Congratulations to captaintugwash for the win!😀

I'll be back later for a board update, some comments, and the medal ceremony. I'm extra busy today - sorry for the delay.

Good game by both, and good work by Tug!😃😃😃

BattleChessGN18

Vic, you are a whole pile of awesome. happy.png

Sorry I'm posting this late, but Tug winning this game means he has become the World Champion of this variant!😀😀😀

The previous World Champion was @Naviary, but is unable to defend his title due to him being involved in other work (I believe he is still in Edmonton, Canada).

The details of the tournament were discussed in the tournament thread (pages 14-20 here), and I had to go back to make sure of the details.

I'll post the tournament results soon (showing Tug's victory) and then I hope to start a new tournament soon.

Oh, wow. Congratulations, tug!
