As much defense as needed. 

Indeed. It's a dangerous way to defend, though, especially with all the traps I try to set up. Forget to cover up for one, then the opponent has a chance to play some crazy 12-move combination. Nobody ever sees those, though, so I've been lucky.

I haven't forgotten to cover for this, though, after your last move.
