If a piece is captured and the captured piece has a piece on top of it, the piece on top is also captured.
Therefor a threat to capture a rook with a king on top of it is check. Yes, a king on top of a rook can get checked.

gg, I think Dobby played well until he blundered with c3. If 17.Ne6 was played instead of 17.Ba4 I think ry is in some trouble.
g7 is under attack and he needs to worry about discovered attacks against his queen with moves like Bb4. If black tries 17...Qe7, then white wins at least a piece after 18.Bg5 Qf7 19.Nxc5. I don't really see a way for black to defend against all threats.
