It's not checkmate though. If white gets a knight to look at the king, the king can not be checked/checkmated.

The knight being in check does not matter. That was the case in example 8 where I explained the rules as well.

But it IS mate. No white knight can face itself towards the white king
There are several knight moves possible to face the white king.
Nd2 and start looking towards e3.
Ne2 and start looking towards e3.
Nf3 and start looking towards e3.
Nh3 and start looking towards e3.
Ng1 (stand still) and start looking towards e3.
