Fog of war bug - shading is wrong for pawn captures

When your pawn can capture a piece, you can see the piece on that square, as expected.

However, when the squares your pawn is attacking are empty, they show up as dark, as if they're hidden by fog.

I notice this every game, and since I'm always focused on what changes each move, it's always annoying when I make a move and see a square turn from light to dark, when I know there's nothing there because my pawn is attacking it.

(Example - play b3 and Nc3, and suddenly the c4 square will turn dark).

Well... after b3 Nc3 nothing can move to c4.

Do you mean something like after e3 b3 the square c4 turns dark?

Hmm, I guess it is true that nothing can move to c4, so it's not a bug. But it is being 'attacked' by the pawn at b3. So it has always felt a little confusing showing it as an 'unknown' square, given it's guaranteed to be empty.

A strict reading of the rules suggests dark is correct. But it makes more sense to me to show it as light, under the logic of 'squares you are attacking', or 'squares that you know about' rather than 'squares you can move to'.

So you prefer to only see 3 rows at the very start of the game instead of 4?

No, at the start of the game you 'know' the 3rd and 4th rank are empty, because your pawn can move to them; therefore they should be not in fog. At any stage during the game, you also 100% 'know' what is diagonally in front of each of your pawns, but under the strict definition, they can appear in fog. The inconsistency in 'knowledge' is what bothers me.
