How does thermopylae variant work?

The computer doesn’t capture the red king (ferz), because it’s a “checker” bot. Checker bots do random moves with checking preference, so they try their best to put you in check, but they don’t capture you because then they won’t have anything to check.

I made the checking bot an immune f checker with a trapped pawn and it still says red is in checkmate

I don't understand how exactly the variant works with the computer checking the red king, but not taking it. I tried replicating this with an invulnerable CPU and teams, i tried just straight up putting the king in, and no matter what, i can't replicate this "checker" mechanism. It's central to a variation i want to make about the white king not having a queen but instantly winning upon 20 moves being performed.
How can i replicate the thermopylae 76+ checking mechanism?
