The guard, a piece that can move like a king but not royal (meaning no check, capture allowed) is worth 4 points
Extensive play testing by computers has revealed that the opening value of a non-royal King is slightly below that of a Knight. In the end-game the value might go up to a bit above a Knight. (But not more than about 0.25 Pawn.) In contrast to the Knight the non-royal King has mating potential, but that in general doesn't countribute much to the value of a piece, as usually there are enough Pawns around to provide it.
