They're all bad moves for us, as I suspected.

Kc8 may be our best move.

For reasons unknown

ry, I'll diagram it from after the Bd7 move.

fyi, our position has been in jeopardy for the longest time.  Not just all of the sudden.

What I'm hoping for is to remove both Queens and a Rook, each side, and we end up down a pawn.

That would be the ideal.

Maybe keeping the queen out for awhile and end it in perpetual check

The reason Rd7 is bad is because after a few things happen, our King will get pulled to the right.

Two diagrams soon.

The other alternative.

Edit: Sorry, these diagrams are flawed… I rushed them.

What i'm hoping for is he plays Qxf7 after Bd7

What we want Martin to do only happens by force.

He's got ideas of his own, and they don't include us. grin.png

ry, maybe you're correct.  Let me look.

Avatar of USAuPzlBxBob

Are the initial moves in the Bd7 line…

Current Position (right now), and we play 1.  …  Bd7, thats the line? (need to be exact)

Avatar of USAuPzlBxBob

Ok, ry, here's the problem…

A. Current Position, then 1. … Bd7 2. Rb1 Rhe8 3. Rxd7+ Rxd7 4. Qxe8 Qxb1+ 5. Bxb1 (our Queen)

B. Current Position, then 1. … Bd7 2. Rb1 Rhe8 3. Qxd7+ Rxd7 4. Rxb6 axb6
Won't happen since A. is so much better.

C. Current Position, then 1. … Bd7 2. Rb1 Rhe8 3. Qxe8 Rxe8 4. Rxb6 axb6
Won't happen since A. is so much better.

D. Current Position, then 1. … Bd7 2. Rb1 Rhe8 3. Rxb6 Rxe7 4. Rxb7+?? Bxb7
Won't happen since A. is so much better.

E. Current Position, then 1. … Bd7 2. Rb1 Rhe8 3. Qxf7 Rf8 4. Rxb6 Rxf7 and we are down a pawn, but with good compensation
Won't happen since A. is so much better.

F. Qg5 Qa6 and Rxb7 isn't an issue anymore

DBs are nightmares when they work against you.

Let me diagram the Kc8 idea.  Take some time.  Hopefully just a pawn down from it.

Kc8 Idea

Have to see what I diagramed before commenting.

Avatar of USAuPzlBxBob

Was worried about Bxh7.  But maybe Rxd8 is better.  Have to see.  Also, when our King comes down to the 8th rank, Kb8 may be better.

Avatar of USAuPzlBxBob

Ry, here is a real position, maybe 10 moves out.

I'd diagram the moves, but do you think we can Draw?

I don't.

As the late Robert Shaw might comment…

"You go inside the cage… cage goes in the water… you go in the water… shark's in the water.

Our shark.

Farewell & adieu to you fair   Spanish Ladies…
Farewell and adieu   you Ladies of Spain.
For we've received orders, for to sail back to Boston...
So nevermore shall we see you again."

That's funny!

We're about to have our pawns split apart on the left, lose a pawn overall, and all the while Martin will continue to hold sway from ease of mobility by his perfectly placed pieces.

I vote Kb8.

It's our best move.

We'll lose a pawn, maybe trade down one Rook from each side, but then, "first light, Chief, sharks come cruisin'."

Kb8... Lets see...

Post #616 details it, but in that post, Kc8 was played.  Follow the alternative 2. c5 portion and you'll see why Kb8 is better than Kc8.

Best move is Kb8.
