I enjoyed the match.

I would not resign yet as white. I do believe black is winning, but after 51.Qxf5+ Kj8 52.Qxg4 white has a lot of passed pawns and he can at least try back rank mate tricks before resigning.

Why would I take g4?

Avatar of Martin0

Capturing on g4 wins a pawn and your f- and g-pawns become connected passed pawns.

I don't really know what the best move is. 51.Qxf5+ Kj8 52.Qf7 j6 looked pointless to me.

51.Qxf5+ Kj8 52.Rg1 might be a better way to win the pawn, but the dynamics are about the same with black being ahead in material, while white has more activity and connected passed pawns.

I just don't see anything better than grabbing that pawn.

I was thinking the same thing. If you are going to take the g pawn you have to exchange rooks first so you don't hang the queen.

Yeah, and then it's even better for you

No reason to exchange rooks, black can't capture the queen.

51.Qxf5+ Kj8 52.Qxg4 Rxg4 53.Rxh8#

Another trap would be 51.Qxf5+ Kj8 52.Rg1 Qh7 53.Qxh7 Rxh7 54.Rg8+ Rh8 55.Rxh8#

I wouldn't want to resign while there are back rank mate tricks.

Good game by both. I don't have any commentary because both sides were playing at or above my level.😐 I did enjoy reading the after-game analysis. Passed pawns are a big deal in chess. Unfortunately games with active pawns in an end-game are my weakness.😕

Congratulations to Chess_Condor for the win!😀

Your right, I overlooked the back rank mate.
