What do you get if you mix Halloween and Chess? You get Monster Mash! The spookiest variant you've ever seen is now in front of you, and this is the perfect game to play as Halloween is nearing!

Rules

  • Burst squares are called graves and no pieces, with exception of the witch, can land on them as it will be their grave
  •  The players may pick whether they want their pawns to be Bigfeet or Jack'o'lanterns. In case of equality issues* a coin toss should do.

The pieces are as follows

Name Abilities Piece representing it
Vampire It moves by one square, vertically or horizontally. Instead of moving, the Vampire can make surrounding enemy units 'victims' or friendly units. It can be put under check, just like the king King
Witch It moves like the queen but it can 'dig graves' or explode squares. It explodes the square it lands on after each of it's moves Queen
Frankenstein It can move like a rook and it will kill the first piece that comes in it's way after it moves. If the Frankenstein gives check to the opponent, Then it is mate. Eg: 1. Bh4 Bg5 2. Bxg5 Sf6 3. Bxf6 4. Mg7,oxof8 Fxh8,xe8#  Rook
Mummy It moves like a bishop. If it moves, the first square that comes behind the mummy on it's diagonal. Eg: 1. Be5 Bd4 2. Me2,oxo**f1  Bishop
Skull Skulls also move like knights and 'eat up' or explode squares. After the skull moves all the squares on it's 2-1 path, except the starting and ending point, are eaten up. Knight
Bigfoot/Jack'o'Lantern

Bigfoot

It can move by 2 or 3 squares when at the 2nd rank

Jack'o'lantern

Jack'o'lanterns can 'light up' or kill all surrounding units instead of moving

Pawn

*If both players want the same type of pawns to be on the board but they can't agree on what they are going to use   **'oxo' is the sign for a grave being made

  • Here are some tips
  • Don't try to stop promoting Jack'o'lanterns using your Vampire
  • The Witch from Bulldog Chess is different from this one so don't play illegals by thinking that it is transparent
                        Happy Halloween!

Nice. Better register or patent your game before anyone steals your idea.
