For many variants, Bulldog chess included, we don't have support in the chess.com variants, or mature websites that facilitate online playing.
(That makes sense. Inventing a variant is done more quickly and more frequently than implementing a UI somewhere.)
So whenever one of these variants is played online, someone is creating and posting boards as images in the forum.
For this we have tools such as Martins tool, and every now and then somebody complains that "I ran some Windows update and now my boardpainter tool keeps crashing".
How should developments go, w.r.t. board painter tools? Perhaps some day, the chess.com variants site become so super flexible that anything invented any time can be configured on the spot.
In the mean time, looking at these issues with tools that suddenly don't work anymore, I found out that we can also get the job done with Python.
In the foreseeable future Python will run stable on any platform after any update.
