Time is Money

Idea for a chess variant.

It's played as a money game--you're trying to maximize profit, but there's no need to play with actual money. You get $1 for winning the game, and you lose $1 for losing. Each player has a number that they can toggle from 0 to 100. They can adjust this number at any point during their turn. If I have set this number to 4, for instance, then the other player has the following three options on their turn: buy 10 seconds for 4 cents (increase their time by 10 seconds; give up 4 cents to me), sell 10 seconds for 4 cents (decrease their time by 10 seconds; take 4 cents from me), or do nothing. Players start with 2 minutes. So basically, I'm setting the price of time for my opponent, and he's setting the price of time for me. If I think he's set it too cheaply, I'll buy time, and if I think he's set it too expensively, I'll give up time.

I think that's very interesting.
