why pgn4 in variants

Wondering why chess variants like "checkers" and "blindfold" don't use standard pgn notation. Aside from the look of the pieces (or lack thereof) there shouldn't be a difference in notation. I'd like to analyze these games but the pgn text isn't accepted. Following is an example

The variants server has a PGN output that is the same for all variants instead of having different code for variants that could potentially support a standard PGN.
