Zanzibar-S game Doug vs. Paul

Yeah, those buttheads list it on the Capablanca's Chess page - it should be the other way around!  But at least Gothic (Trice's) Chess is on the next best thing: Gyaanipedia.  LOL  https://gyaanipedia.fandom.com/wiki/Gothic_chess

Thanks for the heads up, Jean-Louis.  Paul and I are considering using your Chess Variants link to play Zanzibar-S more easily.

Same position, now moved over to chessvariants.com.  This is possibly where this thread will end, since we'll just continue the game on that site rather than posting moves and replies here.  :-)

The fact that Wikipedia allows that as a variant and doesn't allow Trice's Chess just shows how ridiculous the world is.

You compare with a variant proposed in 1283. An European variant which linked with the Muslim heritage. A variant which was anticipating the birth of the modern Bishop, in the same country, of two centuries. I see nothing wrong for this game being in an encyclopedia.

Well, when I see what is on gyaanipedia I wonder if this is really the next big thing. Or you are ironic. What is weird is why gothic chess is not on CVP.  I imagine the story.

I had never heard of Gyaanipedia before my post here, so I was being a little sarcastic, but I do agree it is a cool site so I actually joined them yesterday!  :-)  Ed does not recognize the authority of the CVP.  His variant has been very successful for years and has the credentials to be listed on CVP, however a legitimate reason is not known as to why they do not list Trice's Chess there.

jean-louiscazaux

I don't believe that CVP tries to be an authority at all. They are just a community of people loving chess variants, and this since the very beginning in the end of the 1990s. This community is very open, open-minded, it's them, it's us, it's me, it may be you. I am with them since the earliest times. Everyone can submit and post his own variant, some are very good, some are poor. Some are just uninteresting attempt, it doesn't matter, CVP is not censoring anything. Maintaining CVP is a huge task and those who do that are doing it on their free time and for free. They are very responsive and I consider that they are very kind persons. One should be a very complicated people to have something against the CVPs.

I contacted someone at the chess variant pages years and years ago, maybe 2006. I got a reply from someone named Fergus who said as long as he was there, Gothic Chess would be placed in isolation, whatever that means. So that contradicts your statement of openness right there.

jean-louiscazaux

Not at all. I maintain. Fergus is a very kind person, very helpful with everyone. And he his not ruling as a dictator in any case. They are other editors with him, some coming often reading this forum. And they are also very friendly people

ArchbishopCheckmate

With friends like that who needs enemies?

Jean-Louis, if I request that Trice's Chess FKA Gothic Chess be added to CVP, will they consider it?

jean-louiscazaux

Apparently, it is there already: https://www.chessvariants.com/large.dir/gothicchess.html

shogi

Who wrote that description?  They really disrespect a great variant, what a shame.

jean-louiscazaux

It was not me. I don't see the disrespect, maybe I'm less sensitive. Do not answer to me, I don't want to be drafted in a new polemic about this great game.

shogi

Well I assumed it wasn't you, of course, your description of Gothic Chess in "A World of Chess" is very different.
