Engines don't play the openings in standard chess very well without their pre-programmed opening book. Maybe just use common sense instead ?

I made my post under the context of the original post: Sigma set to 10 ply. You haven't put out any details of your setup, but even with a stronger computer I doubt it will perform exceptionally well in openings.

Also, I would be careful with assumptions like "much larger than anything I will ever have access to."

Hm... the good old Freud might have some comments to make about this.

Northern Knight: If U complete your project, it will definitely enter in the annals of this game called "chess"!Cool

This idea is not very good. I am sorry.

A)This is not the point of chess960

B)Not enough people play chess960 seriously to buy this book. And wouldn't want to buy this book.

C)The analysis will not be in depth enough. You one book the length of MCO, you need 959.

Yigor

The multiplier 960 is nothing wrt, for example, tremendous disk spaces needed to pass from Nalimov-6 to Nalimov-7.

But to make analysis of that quality

It took 100 years for one position, with many people working on it.

A conservative opinion neglecting huge advances brought by comps. Launch a good chess engine and it will easily recreate U virtually all good openings (maybe except for gambits).

Elroch

Note that all opening books or databases based on computer analysis are banned from being used on chess.com, so even if such a white elephant is created, it will be of no use here.

I'm pretty sure this is untrue.

This rule can change. The general use of published resources (whatever is their origin) has nothing to do with cheating.

Yigor

Northern Knight: Actually, Elroch is right, the use of databases containing computer-generated moves (like chessok.com) for games in progress is formally forbidden here. Not sure about books.

I've just added estimations for the 33rd position. A lil amusement continues.Wink

bump, to be continued soonLaughing

falgocharm

Presumably Fischer by inventing 960 intended to reduce the focus from opening theory towards strategy & tactics.  Of course the same principles apply.  Attacking chess is winning chess.  Why nod let Ruy Lopez RIP in standard chess?

Yigor

Richard: Actually, only 480 positions should be analyzed cuz of the symmetry wrt vertical midline of the board.Wink
