Chess Martin0 - evert823 with Crippled Amazons, Joker and Guard

Sort:
evert823

This is a game between Martin0 and evert823 with additional pieces.

Crippled Amazon:
Moves and captures like a Knight. When two Crippled Amazons of the same colour are separated by a Knight's move, they can temporarily move, capture and give check like an Amazon (Q-N compound) until one of them moves out of such a position or is captured.

This means that if you lose one Crippled Amazon, the remaining one is reduced to a Knight. I suspect this to be a substantial loss!

Joker:
Moves and captures like the last piece with which the opponent has moved. But does not inherit any special functions. A Joker who is imitating a Crippled Amazon, can move like a Queen, if he is a Knight's move away from another friendly Crippled Amazon. (But that other Crippled Amazon does not get the Queen's move from the presence of the Joker.)

A Joker who imitates a pawn can move 2 squares if he is on his 2nd rank.

Guard:

Moves and captures like a King but without Royal function.

While castling, the King moves three squares whether it is King-side or Queen-side castling.
Promotion is not limited to previously captured pieces.

Martin0 is white. Enjoy the game!

For interaction between a Joker and Crippled Amazon, an alternative rule could be:
A Joker who is imitating a Crippled Amazon, can move like a Queen, if he is a Knight's move away from another friendly Crippled Amazon.
And even more extreme: When a Joker is imitating a Crippled Amazon, and a Knight's move away from another friendly Crippled Amazon, then that other friendly Crippled Amazon can move like a Queen.
If we both agree that this is more exciting then we could accept these rules.

I think those are more exciting rules, yes. I would go for the first option with only allowing the joker to move like a queen if it is imitating a Crippled Amazon and a knight moves away from an allied Crippled Amazon. I would consider that as part of "moves and captures like the last piece that moved". However since it only inherits moves and captures I think it should not affect how another Crippled Amazon moves (unless of course if we want to make that exception).

By the way, how many spaces can the Joker move forward when it inherits the movement of a pawn and is standing on the first or second rank? Does it matter if it has moved?

I have edited the OP accordingly.

The Joker is already a known Superchess piece and so many discussions regarding this have taken place. Even on chess.com. I will have to search chess.com topics and my own email on this, if we prefer to continue earlier accepted preferences.

FIDE says, a pawn moves two spaces from it's own initial position. Maybe that settles the matter.

The joker is a fun piece to play with. If interested here is a game that evert and I played a while ago:

bulldog-chess-angel-joker-game

Btw, in some thread we pointed out that castling is a king-move, so the joker gets the king's move after a castle.

To clarify when copying a pawn, the joker is allowed a 2-step move only if the joker is on his 2nd rank, correct? I'm not sure if that was clarified in the games that I've played, but seems to make the best sense.

Another game evert played with joker that I just added to the calculation in the scoresheet (slight changes to the ratings)

I'm fine with whatever interpretation we want to use with the pawns. The one I use in event chess is that they can always move 2 spaces forward on the first and second rank. In the lumberjack game with me and JunyJunebug we said the pawn can move 3 spaces forward on the first rank. In bughouse chess they can always move 2 spaces forward on the second rank. Not sure what the most common interpretation is in chess variants. I'll just let evert decide.

OK let's stick to this.

ok, I guess that means the joker can only move 1 step forward when moving as a pawn on the first rank, correct?
