We have plan to actualize our two chess variants into online live game.It will be our project.
You nailed it when you mentioned live. I have played a handfull of visualization training variants. One is where you announce the move you make, but the move on the board is made 2 moves later. Another is to have all pieces replaced by pawns, so you need to remember which pawn represent which piece. Then there's one where you only use white pieces. And finally there is the pure blindfold chess without a board. I think your variant could be added among those that only change the visuals. There's a time and place for those variants, but for me I am not interested to play those in correspondence.
