Eternal Chess
Yeah, that's why I'm hoping that someone knows a platform I can make it on that's more accessible. I'm on a mac so it makes finding such niche things as chess variant platforms especially hard. A friend of mine suggested tabletop simulator so I've finally managed to get things progressed from my handmade cardboard tiles and board!

I've thought about making 2d icons on the flipside of the tiles for more experienced players, but it means I have to design them - you may be overestimating my creative abilities! If I get into it enough then it's something I'll do eventually. 3d is even more complicated and time consuming. One of the tiles purposes is to remove the need of 3d pieces anyway. Also, if this was ever made physically, 3d pieces are extremely impractical.

That sounds amazing!
Of the icons i'm aware of, there is a big selection on http://musketeerchess.net/tools/boardpainter/ (do they hold copyright over the icons?) and I know there are some well known icons for some of the more popular fairy pieces (ones that aren't just rotated), but having some new designs specifically for some of the pieces would be pretty awesome!
It's still a work in progress, but I guess I can throw out some to see what happens!
I did create my own piece movement code but something like (+.,N.) isn't going to mean very much so I'll describe them. In all the pieces I've looked for the traditional/origin names wherever possible, and if there are several I've just picked the one I like more.
Guard (non royal king)
Nightrider (repeated knight moves in the same direction) (its a pun -_-)
Dayrider (repeated 2 square jumps in the same direction) (this too, good luck with these two lol)
Army chief (non royal king + 1,3 leap [knight move but the 'L' is a square longer])
Squirrel (jumps to any square 2 squares away)
All 5 of these have no consistent icon I'm aware of, these ok?
I'm in the process of making a 10x10 chess variant where you can choose from different pieces and they will have different positions in your back rank each game. Is anyone interested in this?
I don't know what the rules are for posting redirect links but If you're interested I've described it in more detail on my blog here:

I'm making a version on tabletop simulator so I can test it a bit but I think the idea is generally sound, its the piece list that needs work. Anyone who has it is welcome to play me when it's made.
It is a paid game though, is there any other way I could make it more accessible to play?
I have read and followed chess variants for a long time so I'm at least aware of most of the interesting ones out there. The whole tiles idea was pretty much 'inspired' by one persons variant idea I saw which did more or less the same thing.
Anyway, if anyone has questions please ask!
