Spinner - jumps up to 2 squares in any direction (non-capturing); after it moves, rotate all adjacent pieces 1 square (clockwise or counterclockwise, player's choice) about the spinner.

Puppeteer - moves like any piece defending it (non-capturing); after its move, optionally swap a piece attacking the puppeteer with a piece defending it.

Thunderstorm - moves like a knight (2 squares in one direction, then 1 square perpendicularly); captures only by jumping over a piece; can capture multiple pieces in succession by making multiple knight moves; must capture if possible; must capture the maximum number of enemy pieces possible.

Frenchman - moves 1 square forward, sideways, or diagonally backward; surrenders if attacked by an opposing piece, joining the other player's side.

Hey, ChessEvolvedOnline is a game which has many weird pieces, and also many people have made pieces for the game which are quite interesting, a good deal of which are posted on the piecesuggestion thread (http://www.kongregate.com/forums/32630-chess-evolved-online/topics/624204-piece-suggestion-thread?page=111#posts-12942793) or on the threads dedicated to the numerous piecemaking tournaments which have been done in the past.

Here is a link to CEO: http://www.kongregate.com/games/TheGrandestine/chess-evolved-online

Here is a link to a CEO discord community in which there is a pretty active channel dedicated to piece creation: https://discord.gg/zddUcrx

Here is a link to the CEOpiecemaker website which is a resource that you can use to create pieces: https://ceopiecemaker.github.io/

The CEO community would love to see your ideas.

The Uniqator

The Uniqator moves like a Rook. He has no normal capture.
The Uniqator can capture in a special way:

If the Uniqator sees two or more pieces of the same kind, regardless of color, from these pieces he may remove enemy pieces until only one of that kind, or only friendly pieces, are left.
He cannot remove friendly pieces. This capture is done from distance.

He must remove the maximum number of pieces possible (and therefore, the entire capture would be illegal if one of the removals would put his own King in check). But it is allowed to leave out the capture entirely.

He can move and make his capture from the destination square, or he can not move at all and make his capture from the current square. Both these scenario's count as one move.
Passive capture is allowed. A move with another piece into the line of the friendly Uniqator allows this capture by the Uniqator. It counts as one move done by the moving piece.

null

As with all other pieces, threatening the King with this capture is check.

Teleporter:

It can teleport itself (hop) anywhere in a 5 by 5 square centered on itself except for itself. It does not capture during this move. It can also teleport other pieces that are two squares away to anywhere it wants. It can't teleport another pieces if a piece in the way. It is normally transparent (piece gets teleported through the teleporter) but right after a teleportation, it loses this ability. It cannot teleport 2 times in a row. It can also move (not capture)like a non-royal king.

This thread is dead (that rhymes lol)

The Samurai.

Moves like an Amazon (Queen-Knight compound), but dies when your Queen is captured, since his life is bound to the Queen's life.

So: take the Queen and also the Samurai is taken from the board.

thegreatauk

Intersting rule for the samurai. Just imagine this (queen is being sacrificed (other queen on c4 to depict samurai) :

evert823

thegreatauk, I don't get your example. Qg8+ Kxg8 and also the Samurai on c4 is taken off the board.

Duke-de-Calatrava

Here are a few faves I encountered over the years. What do you think?

(Pawn) Squire= move forward or sideways 1 square. can only capture forward 1 square.

(Bishop) Summoner= Moves diagonally 1 square. Friendly pieces may instantly move to an unoccupied square adjacent to the Summoner. (counts as a move. Cannot summon the King.)

(Knight) Teutonic Knight= Moves as a Standard Knight, captures as a standard King. Pieces more than two squares away cannot capture the Teutonic Knight.

(Rook) Dragoon= Captures 2 squares forward and backwards. Moves as a Standard Bishop. When a Dragoon captures an enemy piece it immediately returns to the square it attacked from.

(Queen) Iron Queen= Moves/Captures as a standard Queen. Can only capture the enemy King or be captured by the enemy King.

(King) Kaiser= Moves/Captures one square orthogonally and backwards as a Knight. Kaiser has the option to WILD ATTACK capturing all adjacent friendly and enemy pieces.

Exactly it would be tragedy for white if it happened.

Duke-de-Calatrava

Here are some of the more creative ones I found.
(Pawn) Hoplite= Moves/captures 1 square forward as a King. *ARMORED=Armored Piece: Any piece which in addition to its normal powers, cannot be captured by pieces more than two squares away.

(Knight) King’s Guard= Moves as a standard King. Captures as a standard Knight. King’s Guard protects the King from checkmate if the King is adjacent or 1 standard knight’s move away. *SHIELDED= Shielded Piece: Any piece which in addition to its normal powers, cannot be captured by direct attacks to its face/front.

(Bishop) Alchemist= Copies move/capture of opponent’s last piece moved. If opponent’s last piece moved was the Queen. Alchemist copies movement but can only capture as a standard pawn.

(Rook) Kataphract= Moves/Captures as a rook 3 squares. *ARMORED,
*RAMPAGE= Rampaging Piece: A piece that can capture friendly and enemy pieces. When it does capture a piece it RAMPAGES and must move its maximum distance of squares capturing everything in its path.

(Queen) Medusa= Cannot capture, but moves as a standard Queen. Instead of capturing enemy pieces they are immobilized and cannot move or capture while within her range.(If they could be captured if she were a standard Queen.)

(King) Sun King= Moves/Captures orthogonally 1 square. Whenever a (Knight/Bishop/Rook/Queen) enemy piece is captured the capturing piece is permanently “Crowned”. -Crowned Piece: Any piece which, in addition to its normal powers, can move/capture like a King.

Pawn: Shield Bearer

Can Ram on the second move.

Imagine the e and d pawns are Shield Bearers

greypenguin

Rook: Spy

Starts on enemy Rook square. It can capture any piece unless it is capturing through a enemy piece's range or capturing a defended piece.
