Nothing! Two promotions to spy with next possible promotion of spy are enough. Do you understand that pawns reached the 9-10th ranks move like the king?

Thank you for answering all questions. I think I understand all rules now!happy.png

Pawns that reach the 8th rank move like a king (they are promoted to spy). (9th or 10th rank doesn't matter because the promotion already happened).

I look forward to starting a game soonhappy.png

Vickalan, make your move.

Hi BattleChess, thanks for posting the diagrams.

I'll play 1...g8g7

(normally I use the notation which only shows the piece destination, not the origin. I'll try to get in the habit of using your format).

I started a new thread (here) for this game.

See you therehappy.png

IvanKosintsev, LXIVC,
Why don't you guys start your game now?
Then I'll play the winner of that game. We can also add new games if there are other entries in this tournament.
BattlechessGN18 was an excellent player with great sportsmanship.  He found a combination where on move 9 he was able to merge a guard and knight to create a joker, and gained control over a large area of the board.
But after some other moves there was some imperfect play on both sides. I like this game, and look forward to another one. I'm anxious to learn who my next opponent will be!happy.png

Gentlemen!

Keep firmly in mind that our aim number one is to find new players. Beginner hasn't any desire to wait. He must have the choice of partner.

This is tradition for chivalrous tournament.

In addition we have legitimate right to play or to wait until 31.05.2017.

OK, that's fine. In the meantime, if either of you (or anyone) would like to play in a "warm-up" game of (Amsterdam Medieval Chess) let me know. It has the same pieces as Waterloo, but just not as many. It can help anyone learn about the new pieces, and tactical strategy. If either of you would like to play me in this (outside of this tournament of course) just let me know.happy.png

Attention!

It's my debt of honour to warn chess amateurs of all world (especially young people) that the topic "Amsterdam Medieval Chess - Waterloo Training Camp" is a devilish political provocation! Please never go to it.

I'm sorry.

Avatar of vickalan
IvanKosintsev,
I never meant "Amsterdam Medieval Chess - Waterloo Training Camp" to be a provocation in any way. My objective was to add it in the hierarchy of games that people can play. My thought process (for my own past and future game-playing development):

     [tic-tac-toe] → [checkers] → [FIDE chess] →
[Amsterdam Medieval Chess] → [Waterloo Chess] → [?]

I like to play games and there are untold numbers of variants. Some don't look inspiring so I ignore them. When I saw your Waterloo Chess, I did not ignore it. I asked questions, and gave it my attention. I'm learning how to play it, and I am on the waiting list to play it.

What can I do in the meantime? I play other chess variants, and one of them I would like to try is Amsterdam Medieval Chess. It was designed as an homage to the greater Waterloo.

It is your right to not play Amsterdam Medieval Chess. But, unless asked to leave, I still stand at the doorway of the sign-up table, ready to play Waterloo!happy.png

Why must we eat hooikaas in Amsterdam's mouse-trap if we can eat graskaas in Brussels?

Avatar of vickalan

In the winter, one must look hard to find graskaas, even in Brussels.happy.png

Duke care and attention:

"One Lieutenant Obert, in the 1870s, designed a variation of Chess where the new piece was the Guardian, which was a Fers-mover Wazir-capturer; an inverse Berolina Pawn, if one wishes, with the array:

R Gu Kt B Q K B Kt Gu R

Another game in which the new piece was not so overwhelmingly powerful as to unbalance the game, but was more powerful than the rather weak Guardian in the previous game, was Greater Chess, designed by one W. Day in 1942, with the array:

R Kt B Dk Q K Dk B Kt R

the new pieces being Dukes, which could move like a Queen, except only one or two spaces in each direction. This piece is known as the Mammoth or Mastodon in some recent Chess variants.

Of course, if adding a very powerful piece to the board shortens the game, at least it adds excitement, which brings some interest. The variations that add only pieces of limited strength, even if they are worthwhile, do not have that in their favor. As the Duke would seem to be stronger than a Knight, however, that game seems particularly well-balanced."

I already said that everyone can use any possible Waterloo design. The archaic or futuristic designs are also possible, if of course you have a fever to play.

Registration for the championship of Waterloo 2017 is over.

Not so many chess players volunteered to fight for the Olympic ideals, but they exist, and this is inspiring.

If Mr. LXIVC is ready, we can start second semifinal.
