No thanks... IK yaar clubs can get me addicted to talking and not playing chess. I do own a club though but I hardly ever talk in there and I also turn off the notifications so that they don't annoy me 24/7.
I am a club owner (of The Opening Enthusiasts, verify if you want), and I reiterate this on a regular basis:
DO NOT JUST ADVERTISE. I do it on the final day of each month, in one club, then I leave it be. If 10 people join, great. If 0 people join, great. I don’t want to either annoy people or get hundreds of inactive members who I couldn’t pay to actually participate and only get 10 active ones. I realize my club has only 32 members, but if you look closely you see that it is actually rather active. The measure of a club isn’t the amount of members it has, but how good of a club it is and how vibrant the community is. Now, I’m not talking down to you, or saying that my club is the best (or even better than yours.) In fact, my club probably isn’t as great as I think it is, seeing as though I’m heavily biased. However, I have 2 tips for you:
1: Instead of just advertising, calmly explain what your club is all about and don’t put pressure on people to join.
2: Ditch the “I’ll join your club if you’ll join mine.” You’ll get lots of inactive members and join lots of clubs you don’t care about.
Happy chessing!
