Get ready for tricks, swindles, and high levels of adrenaline. The Chess.com Hyperbullet Chess Championship is coming up, starting June 12! Get ready to prove you're the fastest "pawnslinger" on Chess.com.

The event is the sixth installment of the 2025 Chess.com Community Championships and will feature two days of competition and a $2,500 prize purse.

Hyperbullet is just like good old regular bullet chess—except it's faster. Much faster. It's the type of thing that would make your non-chess-playing friends look at you and say, "I can't even keep up with this." They don't need to know you can't keep up with it either.

A favorite among your favorite speed-addicted creators, hyperbullet is all about out-cunning your opponent with raw instincts. Want to see what that looks like in practice? Here's a video of GMs Hikaru Nakamura and Daniel Naroditsky playing a match:

The event will feature eight qualifier events happening throughout the day on June 12. Each qualifier will be a 30-minute arena with a 30-second time control. You can check out the full qualifier schedule and click the Join button within one hour before each qualifier starts to participate.

We may ask players in the qualifiers to join a call for Fair Play inspections. Players who refuse to abide by Fair Play procedures may be removed from the competition.

The winner of each qualifier earns a spot in the Final, happening on June 13 at 1 p.m. ET/19:00 CEST/10:30 p.m. IST. The Final is a double-elimination knockout bracket, also with a 30-second time control. Each match consists of a 20-minute countdown timer. The player with the most points after the timer runs down wins, as long as they lead by at least two points.

Chess.com Hyperbullet Chess Championship 2025 format

Last year, the Chess.com Hyperbullet Chess Championship was the inaugural event of the Chess.com Community Championships. The event, which took place on May 30 and 31, attracted some of the strongest hyperbullet specialists in the world.

In the end, it was GM Andrew Tang who emerged victorious after climbing his way out of the Losers Bracket by defeating GMs Eric Hansen, Sam Sevian, Oleksandr Bortnyk, and Jose Martinez. He then met GM Daniel Naroditsky, the same man who had bested him in the first round of the event, in the Grand Final. That set up the stage perfectly for Tang to exact his revenge, and so he did—Tang defeated Naroditsky twice to become the first-ever Chess.com Community Championship winner.
