"Abandoned" Detection Software

Does anyone know what the algorithm for Chess.com's abandoned detection system is? I'm just asking because I've gotten on multiple times this year with a stable internet at night ( est+) to play bullet and in dozens of games now I've gotten hit with an abandoned early penalty and lost literally hundreds of ratings points in bullet games because of it. I'm actually getting fed up and sick of getting on at night and didn't know if it's a late night server issue or what's going on....

It's based on the server communication with your client. If the server can't see your client session, it starts an abandonment timer and if the connection doesn't get reestablished in time, the game will end as abandoned.

That could be caused by a client side issue, your local network, or something between you and the site server. It could be server side but I'm that case it's usually impacting a lot of members at the same time; I'm not aware of issues around the time you posted.

I don't know the details, but it's not great.
I have lost one and only one game here for a reason other than having been checkmated. That was due to so-called abandonment. Which was brought about chess.com decided I had abandoned the game due to having opened up a new window in which to accept the incoming friend request of the person I was playing against.
I will never forget this, nor will I forgive it. <shakes fist ineffectually>
