Literary works contest. A competition between chess lovers that are also members of text-based community like a chess.com. A competion near the chess where chess rating means nothing ;).  An additional dimmension for chess.com space.

It could be essay or short fun fiction or even true story. And there should be a task - to write a text on given theme. And a theme could be connected with chess (I expect many different possible themes).

There should be a vote system to have two sets of winners: chosen by community and by chess.com stuff. The main criterion for evaluation - value of fun, humour. Second - conformity with theme. Third - quality in literary sense.

Comment tread for each work as usual for furum topic is a part of the event, of course.

And there should be a prize. It could be an original chess board (with chess-men) with Chess.com logo or chess clocks - something that has a value and could be a kind of trophy - souvenir for memory and for honor between friend, parents and children ;).

I think this would most definitely add buzz for those who appreciate literature (many chess players do).  I used to subscribe to a mountain biking forum that did this on a near monthly basis.  It was remarkable the variety and quality of stories they received, all with bikes worked in the story somehow.  For buzz factor, short stories with a chess element would be the best way to go.

I think cultural events like this would set chess.com apart from other sites even more than it already is.

the best thing to do IMO is have live blitz and quick tourneys, it would be AWESOME!! helpers could organise them whenever there was a demand, we just need a tourney bot online......the tourneys are the most popular feature on ICC and playchess , which from a live point of view are your main competition :-))) get tourneys every hr live, get more members, LOTS more members.....FACT!!

There should be  games of the week for players according to rating levels.

i.e. 2700 - 2500

     2400 - 2200

     200  -  0

     etc, etc, etc.

I like this idea.

Another contest - photo - for members who don't like to write but most likely have a photocam and can catch or compose a fun moment around the chess. So my main suggestion - creative contest.

How about having a chess world cup on chess.com. where you can have teams from different countries , and for about a month have a tournement, and only hold it once a year so it becomes special

It would be great if the 'learn' part of the Chess.com philosophy could extend to make live video training by coaches on the site possible.  People could see a training board and hear the coach making comments and moving the pieces.  Many people could be watching and commenting by text at the same time (or coaches could use the facility for one-to-one teaching). Access to some (or all) lessons could be restricted to either paid members or even on a pay-per-view basis.

I think if such a facility was designed well, it would be of huge benefit to the coaches (providing a feature-rich platform for them to teach) and learners (providing access to tuition for many who could not otherwise get it).

To introduce the feature that is unique among online chess sites. If this feature is new and adds a fun to the game then it can be a nice source for news or self-advertisement. I talk about a ploy that is well known in informal OTB chess but most likely is not implemented yet by online chess servers.

I mean flipping the board - players change the sides over during the game. It has sense when one player has a superior skill. After a position becomes clearly winning (or right before that) the game can be not terminated by "Resign" button but continued by "SWAP" of "FLIP" button instead (native english speakers can suggest a better name). Similar to a draw offering this decision has to be mutual with concurrent definition of the winner. After that the game continues as unrated with the opportunity to exchange sides again as many times as players would like.

This feature will be fun, interesting and helpful for any pair of players whose ratings noticeably differ but who (for some reasons) want to play each other. Finally this feature can encrease the number of such "misalliance" games that will contribute to further unity of the chess.com community ;)
