Advertisements, Commercials, and Shameless Promotions: Oh My!!!

Adds seem to be everywhere, and I am certainly one of those who finds them to be utterly atrocious. But, in the case of chess.com, I think they are of a use since it allows us all to have access to a wonderful free website. If I'm not mistaken, everytime you click on an ad link, chess.com get's a nominal amount of money. So, what I propose is that we create a union that wont let chess.com go down in this financial climate! I say we make a commitment to click on three ads a day. In the ideal case, chess.com gets payed for 300,000 clicks. But in a more practical case, chess.com can undertake things that are of a benefit to us but require a financial security. On the plus side, it doesn't hurt us any and takes mere seconds, while allowing us to act out some nonesensical activity three times a day! Who knows, perhaps I'll even start a group called The Clicking Pro's or The Chess.com Patrons or The New Bandits (cause we'll be stealing support for chess.com!). Leave me comments, let me know what you think. Am I an idiot with nothing better to do (as compared to you busy, and consequently disinterested folks), am I mistaken, do we have to do more than just click on the add, do you have a better name for the group?

hehe, Good Question!!! Nooo. I am NOT on chess.com's payroll. Wish I was, but I'm just a concerned member who thought it would be more humorous than practical to start this trend. Let's see if it works...

Premium members don't see any ads... that incudes you D_D

Well not at least once logged in... Before we log in we see the one ad... I suppose we could get trigger happy on that one, but I'd like to know for sure first that by clicking on an ad chess.com receives a royalty.... I wouldn't have expected this to be the case. I might ask Erik on this one.

Most sites that make money off of ads have that. I don't see a reason why chess.com might be any different.

Yes, I know that I don't see ads and it took me about thirty seconds to realize why I couldn't find an ad at the top of the page. So I will simply do my clicks prior to signing in. Shall I send out a daily e-mail of ads that should be clicked? lol Thanks for posting- spread the word

Is there really a need of group effort for it? People who are interested in ads might click on them anyway. If you organize groups, call people to do it all the time, you may end up creating a bogus ad traffic for the site. Becoming a member is a good way to give support, and I believe its where this site's main income comes from. When you keep clicking on those ads for the solo purpose of creating more income, you are abusing the system. If that was the aim, site admins could have found all kind of tricks for this purpose.

If anybody wants to do more than becoming a member, they can invite more people, and encourage their friends to become a member as well. You can also advertise them in your website, or blog, and I believe these efforts are more valuable than creating not-so-natural ad traffic for the chess.com

Fair enough, but I have to stress that a large portion of the group effort is to accomplish a daily nonesensical activity, like standing on your head while eating breakfast and reading the paper. Your point is a good one (please, everyone, become a paying member!!!) but I hope it doesn't, in one fell post, deter everyone from partaking in this glorious activity. Click away, my little minions! We want to see a change for changes sake! Who knows- maybe we can ask chess.com for the ad traffic from before and then after this post began, only to find a change... Keep clicking away, my friends. I am, after all, the highest form of paying member, but I don't think that alone secures chess.com's future.

Haha how many people do you think click on the evony ads, llike the one on the right hand side of the girl. You probably don't need to make a group, since most of the people on this site are guys anyway Wink.

If I'm not wrong you're not the first person to come up with this idea...there have been several other sites where members have tried this out. Usually the advertising companies figure out what's going on and take measures to avoid having to pay for people clicking with no intent to actually pay attention to the ad.

Ok, with Click Fraud in mind, let me rephrase our group goal: we will make a commitment to click three ads a day that draw our attention and which we feel we may be interested in the purchase of, whether at the present or in the future. Great... thanks for the warning schachgeek, though I don't think three clicks can really be counted as a fraud, but now that we have a legitimate purchase "in mind" we are truly in the clear.

Hey all, have you done your three clicks for the day? I have. I didn't end up buying anything but I was really interested in a wholesalechess.com deal on bulk trophies. Didn't seem the right time to buy six unmarked trophies, but I would like to organize events in the near future. Maybe then... keep up the good work people... We are The Committed Consumers (or something like that)
