Two hours into Game 03. Good game by both players till now...
Anand vs Carlsen: World Championship match thread

It looks like Anand would win. Carlsen being punished for setting up a minority attack on the queenside and then placing his queen on the king side-that was anti positional.
Also his move Qc1 did not make sense to me.
On the other hand Anand was playing solidly and solid paid off.
[I assume Anand will win this]

1. Nf3 is my favourite opening, but I think it is good in short time control matches, where there is not enough time to think about transposing...

I guess this game will stop the complaints about draws though, as I can't see too many people arguing that this wasn't an interesting game.
Anyone else not liking Carlsen's attitude at the conference? The way he sits in his chair and the way he answers the questions, looks like if he doesn't want to be there. Makes a bit disrespectful impression if you ask me (even though some of the questions aren't the best).

Or you could consider that it's rather disrespectful on your part to criticise how he sits in his chair. Seriously. Let the guy sit how he wants :p
As to how he answers questions... He's a chess player, not a media pundit. His English isn't anywhere near as good as Vishy's, either. Also, as Vishy's fans are keen to point out, Vishy has a lot more experience with this sort of thing, which is still all pretty new to Magnus.

I think Magnus is maybe just not very experienced in answering such questions from journalists during a WC match, he seems quite conscious that he doesn't want to give too much information away to Anand about what his thoughts about the game were etc. Although it is also probably partly that he doesn't want to be there too.
It's a pity that someone like Kramnik who would spend 30 minutes showing interesting variations isn't in the match.

+3

I don't think postgame press conferences were in vogue back then, but I doubt Botvinnik or Karpov would have been very chatty after a tough game in a world championship match. I understand the media aspect of the match, but postgame interviews feel a little like interviewing a baseball manager in the fourth inning of a World Series game or a basketball player at halftime- for me it diminishes the perceived intensity of the struggle. Not to mention that when these guys lose they are hardly in the mood to give great answers... maybe interviews on the rest days are a future possibility.
Everybody is watching the game? There's a chatbox alongside the Chess.com feed. >1000 people there.
