Anand vs Carlsen: World Championship match thread

13. Qc1 Nf5 14. Bb4 Re8 does not really put pressure on black.

13. Qc1 Nf5 14. g4 Nh4 15. Bxh6 Nxg2 16. Kxg2 17. Bxg4 = win some lose some.

I was surprised not to see Rfc1 in that position and after Be6 return to Qc2 and trying to play b4 and next a4. Can somebody explain that?

Is there someplace on Chess.com that I can see/play thru the first three games?

Carlsen is an appalling interview subject.

Awww, come on Scottster! He's only 22, I think he does really well.

Not really though? He couldn't be more disinterested. I haven't even seen him attempt to answer a question politely yet.

Ziryab

Carlsen will win with the Reti before this match is over. That's why I'm hoping that Anand finds a bust to the Caro-Kann. I want Carlsen to win in 2016 instead of this year. By adopting the Reti, however, he's turning me into his fan.

I don't think he's being rude, I think his manner is being misinterpreted by people.

Scottrf

I'm just hoping my opponent in the Caro Kann tournament hasn't been watching the match, or he'll get an easy draw as black Undecided

Ruby-Fischer

He answers every question politely? Where has he been rude? Remember English is not even his first language.

He managed all the hype really well, imagine having hundreds of camera's clicking in your face.

The reporters are struggling to find appropriate questions. Carlsen is fine when the questions are sensible.

10:40 I'd certainly feel insulted if someone answered me in that matter.

I have sympathy for him, it's hard to answer questions you're not interested in often, but his manner isn't particularly warming IMO. Anand on the other hand makes a joke out of some of the questions and engages more.

True, the reporters not only are lacking questions but the interviews are too early after the game is over. We saw that during the candidates matches, as well.

At what point were you most nervous?? Thats a bit of an annoying question?

What did he expect for an answer... oh well I was really nervous around move 10.. and a not so nervous at move 18 ....

He wasnt rude though, can't see why you would be insulted Scott...

Scottrf

Different question the 'uhhhh...no.' to the 'did you regret any move in hindsight'. His tone, body language etc is completely dismissive and bored.

Agree Trysts. I mean after a 15 minute game Im fairly tired...

They probably just want to be left alone. They are Chess Players, not entertainers.

He was probably sick of patzers asking him about why he had been so lost just because their engines said so. He did draw the game after all.

InfiniteFlash

at least this game, it was longer and more of a fight

I see what you're saying.

I think he's young and tired.  It's a stressful situation (biggest event of his career) and he's working very hard the last few hours, so his answers aren't very filtered.

I'm sure Anand is just as tired but he knows how to be sociable.  40 some years old and married helps a lot IMO.

I hope the upcoming young generation of chess players arnt watching these tounaments.  This whole idea of "eh, why go for the win when you can just force a draw" is for cowards, not pros.

Maybe they just know better than you when there is a win to go for.

Na, doubt it.
