Technically yes. But I didn't join because of COVID-19. After I joined I also went inactive for almost a year.
Are you part of the recent "chess boom"?
Well, I did return to playing chess daily because of covid as well as trying out new site like chess.com and lichess. But I started playing long time ago and had played online before but in much smaller doses.

I started many decades ago but life took me in different directions. Kind of like the lyrics, “the straight and narrow path he showed me turned into a thousand winding roads…” so, I picked it back up a few years ago. It wasn’t due to the lockdown, just time for something else that didn’t include physical pain.

Not for chess, I've been active on chess.com for over 5 years now, but I did begin one or two other hobbies during the time of the pandemic.

Anyone want to share some recent hobbies they got into?

I was the product of both booms --- first boom: Fischer in 1972 --- then quit in 1993 --- second boom: Queen's Gambit.

I started up again in June 2022 when the NY Times ran a chess puzzle series by Daniel Naroditsky. Does that make me part of the boom?

I think so.

I've always been interested but returned to seriously being interested after seeing Niemann vs Carlsen drama popping up in my Youtube feed from GothamChess and GM Nakamura.
Glad to be back. I don't know if puzzles were available here 7 years ago or if I just didn't have the funds for it at the time, but they've been a serious help in reacclimating myself into being more confident in playing against fellow enthusiasts online.
That said if anybody rated 1400+ daily can take on a new game or two with me as differing colors that would be agreeable. Hopefully you're not over 1600, I may not provide any challenge whatsoever in that case but I'd be happy to try as long as it takes.
I am.
I hope this isn't considered a forbidden topic.
When everything closed down 2 years ago I started playing chess on my phone, and I'm still doing that.
