My girlfriend is annoying me when I am playing online. How can I get her to stop? Thanks in advance.

Hello martied2024, tell her that you have set a goal for yourself to reach 2500. And that when you reach it you plan to reward yourself with taking her to dinner or something else that you know you both would enjoy. It's a win-win, and she might start rooting for you instead.

She won't get that dinner for a looooong time

Oof

Its the truth tho🙏. Hes 1700, respectfully getting to 2500 anytime soon is almost impossible

It is possible with dedication and practice. If he has pure dedication, a year will be more than enough to reach 2500.

Respectfully, that's impossible. You need to basically go through candidates level training to get there in this amount of time.

I would confidently say that intense training can help you reach 2500 rating within a year. That doesn't need a Candidates level strength. You may be good at faster time controls. If he could get his FIDE around 2200-2300 (which is possible with training), he can get it!

I am not saying he needs to be candidate level player. 2500s are no where near that. Im saying he needs candidates level training in terms of intensity, and even then it's a long shot. and btw 1700 is like 1400 tops fide. So gaining 800-900 points fide in a year is downright impossible.

It is not "downright impossible". If he wishes, he could train harder and reach 2500. I disagree with your statement.

How about we ask sir @RoelandPruijssers, Is it possible to go from 1400 fide to 2200 in a year with the most reasonable intense training possible? Furthermore, is it possible to go from 1700 to 2500 online with the same intense training?? My guess is that it's humanly impossible.

Hello GMlightning2200 and TotalChesswisdom, that was a fun back and forth to read. Iit would still require a lot of time to reach that level so soon. At the very minimum a good coach would be a must. But with efficient studying and guided by a good coach, I do think he can make it.

But maybe more to the point, I doubt his girlfriend would wait 1 year for a dinner at all. I assumed he was 2200/2300 already which is why I suggested 2500 as a goal. With 1700 it's better to set a goal like 1800 and do a dinner each time he gains 100 points.

What's the difference between pirc and french

Hello Just_an_average_player136, The Pirc is 1...d6 with ...Nf6 and ...g6. While the French is 1...e6. Both openings are against 1.e4.

But what advantages do they offer differently

Hi!
Greatly appreciate you taking the time to do this :)
I‘m currently performing quite well (for my Standards😅) in my Rapid Online Games having reached 2250+. This has motivated me to transition into OTB Chess, with the goal of reaching CM or maybe even FM at some point, since I do have a lot of time on my hands and think that there still are a lot of easy fixes in my game to improve.

Do you believe it to be necessary to get a personal Chess Coach for this? What are the areas a Coach can Best help you with? And lastly, how does one even find a good Coach that fits your playing style, especially living in a small town, with close to zero titled players living nearby?
Greetings! :)

Hello Just_an_average_player136, In terms of style. The French is a bit more correct, very often leading to closed positions. Whereas the Pirc is less studied usually and more dynamic.

Hello WiseDragonCat, It's decent, but not really good. You get a Caro-kann reversed with the extra move Qc2.

Hello Sturm_Gambit, I would have focused more on the openingsprinciples. Getting the centre, your pieces out and castling.

Hello FortunaHell, congratz on reaching 2250+ in rapid, that's quite a feat. OTB is much different of course, but I like your enthousiasm!

Then your questions in turn:

1. I don't think it's neccessary, but it does speed up the process. You can get tips on how to use your time efficiëntly.

2. A coach can best help you guide your self-study and with pointing out certain area's in your game that could use improvement.

3. Well, you have a coach right here. Check out my website: chesscoachroeland.com for more information. I have students with all sorts of playingstyles.

Hello FaC7oR, I'm not sure honestly and it depends on the different time-controls.

Hello Rashmithh, the basis for chessimprovement is solving puzzles/tactics together with playing and analyzing your games. With my personal addition to gradually make the puzzles more difficult.
