BBS's
Anyone here remember these?
Had a few BBS's that I used in the past. Mainly just played some games on them (Legend of the Red Dragon -- LORD).
I remember. I used to play chess on there along with Tradewars 2002. Good old times when the men were men and trolls took pride in their work.
AWESOME!! I knew these would draw out all the old-timers here.
I ran both Commodore 64 and 128 BBS's.
I remember Tradewars. But the version I knew was well before 2002.

Ouch, that's hurtful man.
I used BBSs in the middle-late 90s but not for chess.
WHat did you use them for?
I mostly ran one for the programming fun.
What are you talking about, Lee? How is related to the C64? We had a ZX Spectrum at home in the 80's.
BBS = Bulleting Board Service
This is pre-world wide web.
Back then, people ran a BBS from their home computer. It had a modem that would answer the telephone. Up until near the end, they could only handle 1 user at a time. So people would use auto-dial software that would dial all their favorite BBS's until one was free.
You could exchange messages in message areas, play games, send email and, on some networked BBS's, share messages and email from people in other cities or countries.
The Commodore 64 was about 1/2 the speed and memory of the ZX Spectrum.
But they ended up releasing the 128 which ran at the whopping speed of 1mhz and 128k of memory. A 40 MB hard drive was about $600usd.
