BIG NEWS for 50% of Chess.com Users :)

We have recently added a second hosting service in the UK that should help members in Europe and other areas closer to the UK have a better and faster experience on Chess.com.

If you are in the region, post here if you notice a difference!

(note, it might take up to 72 hours for your local DNS to start pointing to the new servers)

anyone over there???

Considering that the UK is 7 hours away while the US is half the world away I think there might be a tad bit of a difference for me =}

i'm surfacing this one more time - for those of you waking up in Europe right now and playing chess, does the site load faster for you? :)
farbror
Nope, but I have a pretty fast connection from here.

Erik, I been playing since 4.30am this morning, and everything seems a little faster (although I already have a fast connection), but I put that down to not many being on the site at that time. I'll keep watching and i'll let you know how it goes. One thing I can't do this morning is change my status?????

Erik, it's too early to say, the time I have most trouble is at night here in GMT time when I guess there's lots of US users on.  Last night the GM vote game page was taking 5+ minutes to download!  I'll let you know in due course but thanks for thinking of us!

I don't mean to burst the bubble of happiness, but mine seems to have gotten slower?
archerfish123

Seems to be much quicker loading the home page and subsequent pages, but only a little quicker when loading a game.

Still, overall a big improvement!!! Well done to Erik and co!!

Hi All,

Erik, please understand you guys are at least 6 hours behind us, so your posting was in the middle of the night for most, hence the lack of responses.

Have to say that I have noticed no difference in speed this morning.  Tried tactics trainer which is normally slow to load and reload puzzles and still seems to be the same.

As you say, it may take a couple of days for the new server to be picked up by the local DNS, so you never know.

Thanks for the excellent site, by the way.

Hard to say for sure.  It seems to load quite quickly just now (it's nearly noon here on 20th Mar) & I started up Live Chess which has sometimes been slow to start & that seemed good.

A few times previously I've lost connection in Live Chess - I'll make a point of posting if that happens again.

(Always a hard one getting users to test though -  if you hear nothing chances are it's working well - but no doubt it'd be nice for to get positive feedback - I'll try)

Maybe you could think about getting a group of users to do formal-ish testing - timing events etc.  Then you could compare times in Europe with the US & elsewhere.  I'd be happy to be part of such a group.

The current update is that it does indeed seem a little bit faster this afternoon.

Yea, for me in the UK I would say have noticed a difference for the better, does seem to load pages a bit quicker. My current connection is only 1Mg (not the fastest of conenctions these days) but does seem to have improved. Thanks!.

Erik, definitely better so far tonight.  Couple of hours time should be the crunch though.
