Blocking Members Manifesto

I don't know who Scott Pakin is and I won't waste my time looking into it.  I do think it's almost laughable to hear some people talk of decency and honor, (almost being the key word) but it's not.  I don't agree with the notion of putting a limit on the length of the posts, however I'm sure the people who request "just the highlights" would love it.  Sometimes if you really want to understand something you need the whole picture, and if you're asking for the highlights you really don't want to understand.

Brevity is good.

Brevity is levity.

Verbosity is turgid.

You see, I am going to have to ask who is talking about decency and honor. You see?

I like the idea of brevity and highlighted bullet points from Sparty over here.

  • Sparty should demonstrate how its done, by going over Learningthemoves post and bulleting all the fine points.
  • Then, he should number all the points that arent so fine.
  • Then a mandatory sum-up tl;dr portion for those of us who just want the gist and don't need the detail. That would be everyone plus all the people who are eloquency challenged.

This is right. Reading boring-text is equally as bad as listening to boring-people talk & has the same result (switch/off)

So clever, honestly you remind me of someone I used to be friends with.  As someone in this thread already suggested there could be some trolls with 200 profiles, or 201.  It would be funny to hear someone with multiple personalities (on the site) speak of feeling guilty.  If a serious troll was capable of such an emotion I believe it's because they have good reason to feel guilty.

To all the decent people here: if you want to make a simple statement to the serious trolls I recommend blocking them all or requesting an increase on the 200 block limit in one form or another, if not for your own sake do it for the people who can't handle their madness.  I'm finally convinced it is a good idea.

And here I don't even know where the block button is (or what it blocks, actually).

While I don't think there should be a limit, I have to question someone who is really blocking up to 200, I wonder if at that point the problem isnt self-created.

One thing we can agree on is that there is a problem.  A more serious problem than I will speak of here; and in English we have an expression:

"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem."

I gather, having just looked it up, that blocking means blocking people from posting on your page or sending you messages.

Sparty, you must be aggravating a lot of people if you need to block that much incoming.

There was only one person I would have considered blocking, that qkfl guy who posted the thread awhile back about timeouts. He was calling me a "shill" for chess.com, threatening to sue them for hiring us "shills", then started up a game with me which is still going on (only because of the very vacation time he was complaing about), and then got his account closed.

Then he must have signed on as a puppet, because he sent me a link to some wiki where he was blasting a lot of the shills. Sadly, I wasnt included in his blasting. I don't understand what I could have not done to sufficiently offend him, I felt left out. I thought I was atleast as harsh on him as everyone else.

In the end, even if I had known about the blocking, I probably wouldnt have done it, because it was fun being accused of being in the pay of chess.com. Maybe they would have sent me a check eventually?

Just for fun, here is the chat we did in our "game"

qfkl: You know I'm just going to time this out, right?

Ubik42: Of course, I was looking forward to my free rating increase!

Ubik42: It already more work than I was expecting.

qfkl: Haha. Should be interesting to see a sockpuppet play like a real boy.

Ubik42: Sockpuppet?

qfkl: Shill...maybe you guys call it "mod" because it makes you feel better.

Ubik42: lol you think I'm a mod thats funny

qfkl: No I think you're a shill. Funny...I just got some emails from Patzer24 posing as an attorney in Miami Dade County. What a douche! Now I have his IP address, though, so he definitely gets to be part of the federal case.

Ubik42: I think you have a bit of a persecution complex. Why do you think I am a "shill"?

Account closed!

No ubik42, I have no need to block anyone.  I would ask a few questions of you though if I expected you would answer them honestly.  The situation being what it is, I'm done talking to you.

Ubik42

Harsh!

Ubik42

Ah yes...the dream of everyone who wants infinite blocking....

netzach

Actually I only ever block people that are personally-offensive. Most other spats are quite a laugh!

I have not blocked anyone but recently when I had a mate in one, the person said "now wait n-word" and let the clock run out.  As long he does not post that on my wall it is just one game.

I presume you're talking about a racist Idiot.  Those fools make me want to let out some select words inappropriate to these forums.  The way I see it they're lucky anyone tolerates them.

BTW, if I was inclined to block anyone I can think of one person who would be in my top ten.  This one, I'm guessing, can answer my question of how an NM could have his title removed.  I'm also guessing that he excels with multiple personalties and is quite capable of producing a lot of nonsense.  I won't say who though.
