By FAR my best win percentage by game shape is "Intense". What is this telling me?

About 25% of my games are "Intense", and my win rate is 78%. (If you inferred that my win rate isn't very good in the other game shapes, you are correct.) This seems to be telling me something interesting, but I cannot find any good information on exactly what the shapes mean. The insights page just says "that was a serious game!" and the chess.com help pages are not helpful, either. I also struck out trying to google it.

Does anyone know exactly what "intense" means, or what this big outlier might be telling me?

The games 'Shape' is determined by how the game was played. This is the shape of the graph in the Game Review Analysis.

For example, a 'Giveaway' game shape happens when one player was winning, then suddenly lost. Hover over each game shape in the wheel graph to see a brief description of the shape.

In the Game Phases section, you can see your percentage of games that ended in different phases, your accuracy per game phase, and the results of your games that ended in different phases.

/ So I would think that if you look at the Game Review for those intense games, they would have multiple ups and downs.

I'd love to check this, but it doesn't seem like I can search my games by game shape. Bummer.

You can cut down the number of games you are looking at by limiting the date range.

For example, you only have 3 rapid games since yesterday. It says that one was intense; one was a giveaway and one was sharp.

That tells you that the intense game accuracy was 67.1%.

That had to be this game:

Intense, pretty much means that both opponents fought well... It is seen in most of the games at the lower level as users try to progress to a more open setup where there are good chances...

Woooow, so many blunders! The game review must have been trying to spare my feelings, haha. It goes easier on lower rated players, right?

I know what it's telling me .... someone with a grade of 678 who plays intense games plays games that are chaotic. Calm down, learn to develop your pieces and make them work together and you may stop being intense. You can't be winning consistently or your grade would be higher.

You're right, I don't know chess yet! But I know matchmaking systems, and nobody wins consistently, lol.

Besides, I know I'm just learning and I do a lot of things just to see how they play out, not necessarily to try to win. I bet I'd be at least mid 690's if I was really trying.

You’re most vulnerable to a patient, position building player.

If a good player gets intense, it means something different. It might mean intense. But a beginner can't be intense. They still want to say something positive, which is why Chess.com is so bad at teaching chess.

Cool! Tell me more...do you have intense games? What are they like?

That's useful, thank you!
