Calling all chess.com icons! What drives YOU?

Hello, chess.com! I’m HitThePin. Thank you for opening this forum when it caught your eye.

There are many people who have made a gigantic impact upon modern chess. The likes of Carlsen, Nakamura, and Caruana, whose names will no doubt go down in history. They have accounts here, too.

But I am not here to talk about those people. I’m not here to talk about the icons of chess, I’m here to talk about the icons of chess.com.

Now, you know if you have made and impact on this website in your own way. And you also know if you haven’t. It goes without saying.

We are all different. We are young and old, master and patzer, decent and cruel, male and female, smart and foolish, loved or hated. And I’m proud to consider myself one of us.

But there is one thing that connects us all. We all love chess, and we all love chess.com. We have spent hours upon hours, browsing the forums, playing our games, joining clubs and matching wits. Many of us have spent years. (As for me, I haven’t hit year one)

But there’s a reason you’ve put in all those hours. And I don’t know that reason. Which is why I invite you all to say what exactly that reason is. What brought you here? What kept you here? I, and surely all of us, are interested.

there was an exodus from a site due to a mod going loopy and booting everyone we gravitated to here in dribs and drabs , but found the social side more expressive here with the ability to post more than a few sentences ,
