Belgium is recognised by some of the major powerbases (Countries)in the world as a country.  It has a capital,It has it's own flag,it has a royal family, it has a parliament and on and on...

 Serbian atlas show Belgium as?

The power of Telivision and media !

Tito was all that held Yugoslovia together.  That and nationalistic pressure against the Russians worked until the Soviet Union imploded.

Belgium has a lot more "national identity" than what's left of Yugoslavia.

But "pigs in a blanket" (Haluski) is great food most anywhere in Eastern Europe.

Let's focus on what's really important -- food, and flying cats.  Smile

Is this deal with the Spain/Catalonia some sort of a arguement that dates back to 1400 or something?  Sort of like how Texans insist we're not part of the U.S.?

Secession didn't work the first time, what makes u think it will work now?

theMagicRabbit

Republic of Texas is different than the C.S.A., and I was just asking if the Spain/Catalonia arguement is similar to the R.O.T./U.S.A. arguement.  And I'm not suggesting  secession, I just like the way the Battle Flag looks.

Not meaning to get political but rather to bring forward some History, Catalonia was freed from Moorish control in 788 AD with help from Charlemagne ( yes the Emperor of the HRE ). Catalonia was an INDEPENDENT Domain until 1137 AD when it was united with the Kingdom of Aragon ( and was LATER included in the Kingdom of Spain ). The French controlled Catalonia from 1640 to 1659 AD, also from 1694 to 1697 and again from 1808 to 1813. Isn't History fun.

--- Someone asked for info, so I've repeated my earlier post. Smile

As you admit, Catalonia has never been an independent country. And the last part of your text is also the most ridiculous: Napoleon invaded Spain in 1808, and it costed France some 250.000 men. Napoleon also invaded Rome, Viena, Moscow,.... Surely Wladimir Putin will be glad to know that he is French! Ha, ha, ha.

--- Tercio3: I realize that English is not your first language however the fact remains that Catalonia was independent from 788 AD to 1137 and was ruled by the Counts of Franconia for 349 years ( INDEPENDENT of SPAIN ). Are you able to understand that ? As for the Falkland Island they have never had any connection to Argentina. If you are going to comment on History perhaps you should try reading a bit of it first.

--- And yet more info, hope it helps ( & good luck with the OP ).

Texans don't talk much about secession, they already believe that they are an independent nation.

At one time someone had the big idea that CSA and Texas and Mexico should all join together and form one big country. But I get the feeling that if the South had won the war, they would have broken apart back to the original states and they would all have made war against each other.

bigpoison

I get the feeling they all would have thrown their lot in with the damn' commies.

CalamityChristie

Catalonia, the greatest country in the world!   (by miles ... or even kilometres)

DrFrank124c

Its all very interesting. All of the countries of the world are made up of various groups, each group wanting independence from each other. Spain has various national groups, Catalonia, the Basques and what not, the US has 50 states, Russia has many regions each wanting independence and so forth. But not only that but their are groups within each state or region, each group wanting independence. Within each group you have subgroups with their own ideas. And these subgroups are made up of individuals, many of whom would like to go their own separate ways. So if the magic fairy came and gave everybody their wishes we would all be a bunch of cavemen fighting over our little crumbs of bread. So isn't everything better the way it is now, instead of individuals fighting each other, we are all in groups with each group fighting the other--a world of Hatfields and McCoys?

theMagicRabbit

frank124c, I could be thrown out of Texas for this, but you're right.

Please don't tell anyone I said a New York Yankee was right.

CalamityChristie

if we were all Catalonians, we would have world peace and no need for caves.

ivandh

Caves are fun though

CalamityChristie

Bubkus
