How is it sneaky to charge you after seven days, the way they said they would?

It's not.

Don't worry. You'll get the money back.

Yeah, I’d be pretty ticked too if i didn’t read the TOS before making a financial commitment. But, chess.com seems to be a pretty forgiving group.

Just ask them for a refund. I don't justify or agree with them doing what they do (mandating a payment card for a free trial), but they do warn you.

They do this to stop you from creating new accounts again and again.

I somehow doubt many people would be bothered creating a new account and losing all their progress 50 times a year. Besides, since they say they only use the info after the 7 days are up, couldn't someone just enter fake CC information?

Yes, chess.com is a mean company  happy.pnghappy.pnghappy.pnghappy.pnghappy.png      Just kidding

... and no because they verify your CC information by charging you minimum amount in order to avoid false CC information or maybe they did it because I live in " Bandido Country " ¿?

So the OP did not even realize that ...

I was charged here in Mexico MXN $ 1.00 ~ US $ 0.05 or Euro € 0.04 and nothing bad happened. BTW I did continue in chess.com ...

Do they? If so, that means this:

is a lie.

Well yes, but that is not the only company doing it in order to avoid beeing scammed.

You can anyhow ask them to refund the amount ...

How would they get scammed?

Making a new account every time ur free trial runs out makes no sense. Besides u cant have multiple accounts so chess.com will just start closing them all or even IP-ban u. Blargs right, I don't see why they need u to provide ur credit card details to get access to the 7 day trial.

Perhaps they charge you after the 7 days trial? I'm not too sure myself.

There are ways of getting past that. And you could just want to try the video content or lessons,

It’s up to the person who’s got the free trial , to close his membership before the trial ends, if he does this no payment will be made.

Can u explain what benefit there would be to constantly changing accounts to get free premium for 7 days? it would be more efficient to just purchase premium on one account and use the lessons and videos rather than just periodically making new accounts to do the same thing, plus like i said staff will eventually find out ur doing this and will ip ban u. then u have to get a VPN and bypass the ip ban, eventually it just becomes a massive hassle just to get some video and lessons, doesnt seem worth it.

That's what they do, yeah. My problem is with the whole paradigm of asking for credit card information upfront and setting things up so that a subscription begins (and is charged) immediately after the trial ends without any further input from the client. They're hoping people forget to cancel and just roll with it. A lot of places do this, as it's unfortunately become a very common practice.

That is pretty much the way every free trial subscription works. It's a standard process and they do not charge before the 7 days are up (based on the time of the initial trial start time). If you cancel before that, you don't get charged.

i just wanted to use my full free trial before i cancel it i think it should be end of the 7 day, thats why i think its sneaky. And also it said it would be 15 Krones a month (Danish currency) but they took for a year i know it probably is standing in terms and stuff but still sneaky in my oppinion.

sounds good if i get a refund. But when you have to pay after 7 day trial my monkey mind thinks its after the 7 day ends but allright i understand they just charge you on the seventh day. I get it now.

Avatar of Woollensock2
The onus is on you to make sure you cancel the free trial, before the end of the seventh day . If you fail to do this , you can’t complain if you’re charged.
