Chess.com Spell Chess Championship 2024: Official Discussion Thread

2024 Chess.com Community Championships series comes back with its third event of the year: The Spell Chess Championship will be happening August 1-2, so ready your spellbook, wand & the pointiest hat you can find and come join the chess wizardry colosseum!

With the first qualifier arena starting at 9 a.m. ET / 15:00 CEST, August 1 will have a total of eight qualifiers through the day, with the winner of each tournament moving forward to the Finals on August 2, consisting of an eight-player double-elimination knockout to declare this year's Spell Chess Champion. 🧙

• Prize Fund: $2,000
• Qualifiers Format: 75 min arena, 3+2 blitz, rated. Winner advances to Knockout Finals.
• Qualifiers Date: August 1, eight total arenas. Full Schedule 
• Finals Format: 8 Players double-elimination knockout, Best of 4 games, 5+2 blitz, rated.
• Finals Tiebreaks: 1+2 games until a decisive result determines the winner.
• Finals Date & Time: August 2 at 12 p.m. ET / 18:00 CEST with live broadcast.

Do we have to join a video call during qualifiers?

In the qualifiers, we may require participants to join a video call for fair play checks to ensure a safe playing arena for everyone. Players who join the fair play call will be asked to set up two cameras from different angles in the room. Non-compliance will result in a player's removal from the event.

What if i use one camera?

Do you mean the variant spell chess or a spelling bee.
