Chess is upsetting me.

Do you really believe this is going to help? Or do you receive pleasure by mocking the poor guy? Completely unnecessary.

Yes, it is unnecessary. But as I said earlier, there are many trolls and immature people on chess.com. The forum is a zoo. People hide behind their little user name and say things to strangers they would never, ever say in person. That is the main reason I spend so little time here. I wish, oh how I wish, I could find a place to discuss chess with serious chess players.

Definitely turn off chat.
Your studying will really show if u go play in some real otb events. I don't know if ur rated or not but ur gonna love otb tournaments more and improve more.

Here's some advice. Take a break. Remember that chess is just a game, and it is supposed to be fun, not painful. Take a week without playing chess, and bet you'll come back and feel and play much better.
Wouldn't hurt to take a little break.. But you have to just accept that unless you're terribly under-rated, you're going to lose about as many games as you win (apart from draws here and there).

Guys, thanks so much for the advice in this thread. Focus mode really helped, I just hit the 95% percentile having won the past 6 rapid games in a row, so clearly my tilt is over

You think chess upsets you?
Think how much it upsets me.......I play Blitz and 6 years ago I was rated 1710.
I am now a 1074.....I am 73 years old....As you get older your brain slowly turns to mushy peas.
It's what's happening to me now as my ratings collapse shows.

@Caffeineed that’s not okay this is serious how would you feel if you had a problem and people just told you they straight up didn’t care

Like people were honest

Wow ... that's some mighty fine "advice" that lifted you to win 9 out of 10 rapid games including a 92.6 accuracy in a 46 move game ... I reckon with a bit more "advice" you could be tied for the lead of the US Chess Championship...

Lmao this is the first time I've been accused of cheating, I take as a complimentary though. I had no idea of the accuracy in this game due to no membership, actually, but now I'm really happy!

Chess is currently making me depressed for a couple of reasons, the first and most obvious is that my rating has stalled completely, I'm stuck at 1400 and each player I face appears to have the skills of a Grandmaster, I literally do not stand a chance. I have no idea how I can surpass where I am now, I am studying chess for hours every day and still no progress, nothing...
Secondly, I am getting trolled by players laughing as they beat me, wasting time etc. I recently faced a 1600 player who was playing at 1450 for some reason, he obviously destroyed me but kept laughing and telling me to hurry up with my moves, destroying my concentration. I understand chess is competitive but why do people need to use psychological cruelty to win a game, I don't understand it.
Thirdly, I get really upset when I lose a game, my brain physically hurts from looking at these positions and when I post analysis in the forum, some 2000 comes along instantly and says OH you missed this move , and this move, and blundered here. What I am lacking is eyesight, chess is literally making my eyes hurt, I can't see every single piece and where they can go. An obvious example is when my opponent attacks me with an undefended piece, I will run away from it because I assume my opponent won't blunder, this is an effect which losing so many games has had on me.
I guess the point of the thread is that chess makes me angry, sad, ruins my day, I don't relax or enjoy playing it at all. All I wanted was to get into the top 5% of players but I stalled so badly at 1400, and I am just fed up of losing. I wondered if any of you have faced this and how you learned to enjoy chess while being beaten all the time? Obviously winning gives you endorphins, but I am losing at least 50% of the time at the moment so I find the game is belittling me and making me feel stupid, etc.
You should probably close. As much as I ane others and staff hate to see this happening because of chess, you need to do what is best for you.

Great move grabbing the pawn with that knight. That's not so easy to see.

just turning off chat will help a lot. There are lots of anti social people on here unfortunately. You have to turn it off in both the regular settings and live settings otherwise people can still ask to chat with you.
It's the same with the forums. If you complain about anything lots of the replies will be people telling you not to complain. Unfortunately there are a lot of people on this website who get off on doing that. It's the internet so you are not going to change someone's mind. It's best not to post these kind of things unless you are a masochist!
As far as progressing have you tried doing puzzles? Pattern recognition and tactics can get you up to1600 at least.
