Yes, intelligence in planning and logic. More than can be said for a lot of people these days. Besides, looks aren't everything and everybody is interesting in their own rites.

what is boring?? if you like chess you wont think GM's are boring, but if you dont care about chess you prob think they are! GM's (top ones anyhow) dont have time for a social life if they want to keep uptodate with theory and analysis....but you will find this in a lot of other fields too, the top of the tree are totally dedicated, and there will be time for social events when they are now longer competetive. In the time it takes a GM to take a hot bath, they could have learnt another two lines in the french defence, thats why they only take a flannel wash :-)
Are we boring? No, we are unique! Watching paint dry is boring. Doing taxes is boring. According to a math teacher, statistics is even more boring. Chess is not!
Generalizations this broad are tough, but I'll make one for the sake of argument.
Chess players tend to be more logical and fluent. Conversations with them tend to have more substance. So for me they aren't boring. In general. And we aren't ALL bad looking 
Are we boring as a breed? Looking at the photos of the top GMs you would have to agree that we aren't exactly leading the world in the sexy look.
We can do more than think a few moves ahead and decide whether we should exchange that bad bishop! Discussing the pros and cons of the Reti is not the first thing we think about over dinner!
