How the site relates to life? Or how the players relate to life? Note that the players are a cross section of every culture in the world lopsided toward more wealthy countries.
Chess relevance to today's life

HI Po218,
Thanks for clarifying. I guess what I am trying to scratch the surface of is 'how this site are affecting the players' lives and the people around them.
Like in my case, I am just so excited not only about how the games go but on what my opponents' responses to my chat messages. Both could go as fun.
Knowing that my opponents could be on the other side of the world.... somewhere, it's so intriguing and interesting what life could be out there.
Thanks for the note.

Well, personally, I enjoy the group features where we can have topical and private discussions. I enjoy the chat features. I have had conversations with people from Africa, the Middle East, England, Australia, etc.,. and learned things about them.
I enjoy the games.
However, it is difficult sometimes to balance computer time with real life. I have a family, a job, pets, etc.,. If I get too many discussions/games going I feel like I am neglecting other parts of my life.

I completely agree, especially about the ''Neglecting other parts of my life'" thing. Often, not all members of the family know chess and they may have different attitude about it. This is the time when we kinda balance things. But my advice is, pay more attention to your loved ones or teach them and get them to play CHESS with you :)).

Like other websites, it is really neat(sometimes) to have discussions from people around the world when at a political, or chess-related website. When I'm on the Internet, I am more at home with my choice of interest at that moment. Of course, family and intimate relations are important to me, but I'm just an empty presence in their lives unless I continue to learn and intellectually explore either quotidian existence, or the means of communication granted by this elaborate telephone called the Internet

I take it, that like any other social networking websites, Chess.com is another one that offer the same such as Facebook or LinkedIn. The difference is that, here, people have more specific interest which is chess, that makes the site more exciting specially for those who seek that feeling of "the Hunter" or being in battle but only in a friendly and harmless way.

Hi All,
I wuld like to share this post by one of our "Gentleman Of The Game". This post is from one of our avid fun of Chess.com and I believe this site has affected many lives in many ways.
I am not posting the name of the gentleman who posted this but it shows exactly how Chess.com meant to chess players on line.
The post follows below:
"My dad taught me to play chess when I was in kindergarten, and we've played off and on ever since. Now that I live away from home, I thought online chess would be a great way for us to continue playing. I discovered chess.com, and upon taking the tactics trainings, playing the computer, and doing the daily puzzles, it has opened up a whole new world of chess to me. I've become very interested in learning as much as I can."
Thanks for this important post.
Good luck everyone.

One remarkable "gentlemAN OF THE gAME" Marcel Duchamp once said,
"while all artists are not chess players, all chess players are artists"

I think Chess.com has a different distinction of audience compared to other social networking sites.
Hello Chess.com Players,
I would like to start a discussion on "How Chess.com Players" relates to today's life.
Thank you and good luck to all your games and your lives as well.
