what does pikonu mean?

and... WHAT DO YOU MEAN?????

Maybe I should have written, "I don't mean to pikachu"?

Look at old forums that discuss membership

I'm sorry if for whatever reason your prevented from paying for the features, but it isn't Chess.com's fault that you can't pay for the features that others do. There are other chess sites that offer some of the tools that Chess.com has for free if you look around. Either way, your complaint that Chess.com should give you access to paid features because it isn't fair that you can't pay for them isn't a valid complaint. People pay for a service and get them, if you don't then you don't get similar service. It is how the world works, and it isn't unfair at all.

Anyone else tempted to say "kids today expect something for nothing"...

Dammit, your avatar's cuter than mine! Smile

...and I was thinking of changing it!

God forbid!

Well, even so, there's no obligation to be fair anyway. As far as I know, Chess.com is privately owned so the owner gets to call the shots the way he wants to run it.

And no one can tell him how to run his own business.

Now for a story...

Once at McDonald's, the police came in and shut the place down because someone told them how they were charging for the food just so they could earn a profit and feed their families while the people who didn't pay them didn't get to be treated as paying customers.

It was amazing. They'd been doing it ever since I was born and I never expected it to take so long for it to catch up to them and really just thought they'd get to continue running their business getting their money in exchange for the goods and service they provided.

But sure enough, they shut them down for being unfair and that was it.

The freebie seekers jumped for joy and said, "YES! We finally won and taught those hard working enterprising people a lesson they won't soon forget! Hamburgers and french fries and milkshakes for everyone!

So then one of the freebie seekers was so happy he just reached in and got himself an extra toy with his happy meal instead of just the one that came with the way it was normally served.

So then of course, the other freebie seeker got jealous and thought it wasn't fair because he only got one toy instead of two.

Why should the other kid get to have two toys anyway?

Then your cruel mother came in and said, "You will NOT (as in not fair) get a diamond membership to chess.com for your birthday no matter how much you beg, whine, cry, work hard or even if you invent the world's first Cuadnomorizer and become a Billionaire...you most certainly will NOT by any means get to improve your calculation skills, pattern recognition, decision making abilities or any of the other valuable life-improving skills chess and your new diamond membership at Chess.com has to offer you...and this is FINAL!"

Then as you went to sleep, you heard what sounded like bells on top of your roof and the sounds of hooves.

You got up out of bed to see what was making all this noise on top of your house near the chimney.

But before you made it to the door to get outside and take a look...

You saw them.

Milk and cookies.

And your mother was eating them!

It was after midnight and your mother was eating milk and cookies, as she was busy and peacefully doing something on her computer. She didn't even notice the noises above because she was having such a good time.

You looked to see what she was doing that was so fun.

Was she chatting with a friend?

Posting on her facebook?

No!

You looked closer and there it was.

It was your mother's name with a diamond beside it.

She was playing chess at Chess.com and had the diamond membership and all the fun that comes with it when it should have been yours! For your birthday!

You said, "Mom! What are you doing? That's not fair!"

She just laughed and said, "Well, since you were dreaming about getting something for nothing, I figured it was "dream time" and so this whole experience has only been a dream. You're still asleep. They never shut down the burger joint. And none of this is real. Well, except for Rudolph the red nose reindeer and Santa on top of the house, but I didn't want to embarrass them by letting them know it wasn't Christmas time yet. Oh yeah, and my Chess.com diamond membership is real too, but in real life, I use a different username so you won't know it's mine and I can still feel like a good mother."

Next you feel the gentle but firm nudge of someone determined to wake you up.

And it's this post. So let the following sink in and you'll be much the wiser...

These few sentences will save you years of self-pity. The sooner you realize it, accept it and even learn to appreciate it, the happier, more fulfilled life you'll live.

They are:

1. Life isn't fair.

2. Nobody owes you anything.

3. You aren't entitled to anything.

4. If you really want something bad enough, you work for it and earn it.

5. If you don't really want to work to earn it, then you must not really want it.

If you find yourself resenting these statements instead of being grateful for the wisdom from your elders, for your own good, then you will need to correct your attitude.

If you are grateful for the benefit of saving yourself years of aggravation because the experience of others has come back to help you get a head start, then there's more where that came from, but this should get you off to a good start.

AndyClifton

6. If you read through that whole thing, you deserve a free premium membership. (heehee!)

What is, kenpo?  The OP's OP?  Or something else?

Though I agree with your point that it's clearly not fair, I also agree with some of the others here that you could work to earn a diamond membership.   For example, I've been mowing my neighbor's lawn for the past 35 years to earn spending money for things just like this.   Not to mention lemonade stands, washing cars, etc. - there's so much an enterprising young person (or middle-aged adult) can do to make money.

Also, my mom lets me set aside half of all the money I earn for personal stuff (the other half goes for alimony).

i mean i understand the ads but y do they get to do stuff that we saps cant? they say in the mail thing its only for ads

Do you think it's fair to ask the site owner to give all that stuff away free to all the members? What would be their reason to have a site, at all? That's like asking store owners to give their stuff away free. Why open a store at all?

PawnPromoter316

Not quite the same; ads generate some revenue. It's like newspapers that sell for 50 cents. It obviously costs much more than the sale price of a newspaper to print and deliver it - the bulk of revenue is in ads

She's apparently just a kid, so don't be too hard on her. Some good advice, nevertheless.

Seems like the best course of action is to do a couple of odd jobs (lawn mowing, babysitting, etc.) to earn the cash. It really doesn't cost much.

Guess the energy drink had more caffeine than I thought. Tongue Out

I do feel sorry for those who want the membership but genuinely and sincerely just can't afford it. Like they make below minimum wage or something and honestly just don't have $14 in 30 days they can budget.

You could always ask your mother for a puppy and when she says no, say well can I at least have a diamond membership for my birthday then?

50% chance it could work.

A gold star is only $29 per year.

Are you saying I paid too much? We only need one?
