I'd like to see a scheme for grouping discussions relating to a single feature or tool e.g. the Analysis Board. There have been many separate forum topics discussing changes and new proposals - but they are all over the place, and difficult to keep track of.
One possibility would be to extend the chess.com community forum category, by introducing subcategories for tools such as the Analysis Board (and move the most relevant existing discussions into it).
Keyword tagging of all forum topics would be an even better option.
Yes please. This has been requested a few times and would be a huge improvement over the current search functionality.
There is a link at the bottom of EVERY page. (Very few people are aware of them until they are pointed out by someone else. There is seldom a need to scroll to the bottom of the screen. Would it be a good idea to provide a copy of these bottom-of-page links as a dropdown menu to a new command toolbar item EXTRAS at the TOP of every page - alongside PLAY LEARN READ etc. ?

I think it would be an even better to have a "Report this Post" link on the header of each post in order to minimize the data entry and expedite the proces at least for forum posts.
I'd expect that for other types of abuse reports the "Report Abuse" link at the bottom of each page should be sufficient.
It would be great to see the next version of live chess come out soon! I was actually able to participate in an unrated test run of this new version relatively recently and i was quite pleased to find that it actually exists. I was beginning to think that you had blizzard entertainment's team working on the new live chess as they have spent almost a decade trying to build a single game
. I would like to say that i am excited about the progress thus far but fear that valuable time might be spent on some of the rather frivolous suggestions (ie clocks by the flag in live chess) that have little to do with my chess playing experience on this site, which has been up to this point quite good. I guess what I am really asking is, how big of a priority is the new live chess for chess.com and how soon can i expect to see it?
One other wish i have, and its a big one so i dont expect it to be a priority would be the ability recieve personal instruction from willing titled players through the website. I envision something like a list of the titled players that are willing to give personal lessons to us mere mortals and some reasonable way to request weekly lessons. Naturally i would have no problem paying some kind of hourly price for the instructor as wells as some kind of fee for chess.com's part in processing payment and facilitating these kinds of match ups. It could be charged straight to the account of members or some kind of super premium membership. hopefully there is enough interest in the community to make this happen.
Great work on the site and thanks for taking our imput into consideration.
Here's an interesting idea that you could incorporate in chess.com, Erik?
Check out the feature called "Play like a Grandmaster". You have to guess the moves the GMs make before they make them and you score points accordingly. Seems like an excellent training tool :-)
A similar feature now exists at chessgames.com!:

Speaking of locked threads, I was tracking a thread that got locked. I can no longer "untrack" it, but I really have no more interest in it now that it's locked. It would be nice if when threads are locked, the tracking information was not locked. If that's possible given the structure of your database.
I must retract this. It turns out the topic does not appear in my list of topics I am tracking. It just appears in my list of topics I have posted in.
what about Chess 960 team matches and vote chess?
I agree with the idea.
you can already do that...

i like it.... except their not the best of the best moves, just very good moves since its from GMs. How about "Play like a Grandmaster" AND "Play like a Engine"? lol. Just joking, but play like a grandmaster is fine, because the moves are good enough to learn from.
When you move a Puzzle/Diagram/Game, it becomes a useless image. Please fix it. This occurs when your editting or posting a reply.
Like so:
.
btw, only happens sometimes i think, mostly with game though, with puzzles its less likely to happen.
I love the idea to have live chess tournaments! That would be absolutely BRILLIANT!!!
Maybe Premium mebers only could be allowed to host them?

just so everyone knows - i read each and every suggestion made here. at this time we are hyper focused on site stability, live chess, and iphone. nothing else is on my radar screen. once those things are humming along and happy i will revisit this thread and the last, sum up the ideas, and create a new priority list. i'm sorry we don't have unlimited capacity to make improvements :(

There is some great stuff in here Erik. If you want to be able to find it quickly I've flagged the best of it with a header that says "TheGrobe".

Sounds great, Erik....thanks for keeping us in the loop! Nice to hear that you read all these comments, and for giving us feedback on what's going on. Regardless of what people say about this site, the communication between owner and members is absolutely unbeatable. I know of another chess site where you never hear from the owner or staff (even just a simple message from time to time or even participation in the forums) and that is just plain rude.
With tournaments, you can choose ones where the rating range across the tournament group will be wide (e.g. in open tournaments). Equally, you can enter rating-restricted tournaments to encounter more equal opposition.
I'd like to see a similar fine degree of control for team matches, particularly between disparate groups. Currently, there is a single automatic policy: each group fields their STRONGEST team. The mechanisms outlined in this thread: EARLIEST, BEST MATCH, FAIR MATCH and WEAKEST - would provide a set of alternative, optional policies.
STRONGEST
Both groups field their strongest team
EARLIEST
“First come, first served”. The first N players to sign up form the teams
BEST MATCH
Automated selection of team from the stronger squad to match the ratings of the weaker team
FAIR MATCH
Manually adjusted selection of team from the stronger squad to match the ratings of the weaker team
WEAKEST
The team of N players from the weaker group plays the last (weakest) N players from the stronger squad
These would, in my opinion, rejuvenate the Team Match format, enhance the fun when playing against mega-groups (not least, for members of those mega-groups), and create more varied and interesting teams.
