How about the ability to play my vote-chess games on my mobile?

Satorichess, do you mean something like the analysis board, but available everywhere, able to load positions? It seems redundant to me, almost anywhere on the site where you need to do analysis the board is available, and there has to be some appropriate software or firefox plug-ins for more generic chess use... hasn't there?

No grey,
I'm not talking about this, and of course I know everywhere is plenty of analysis board, but those are related to the game you are playing.

I want a setup board which runs independently on any game I'm playing. I leave to the site developers and designers where to put it, this would be extremely useful, for extra analysis, or to start from different positions and pieces, to create your own puzzles (and verify that it can work) or let's say you are on the site and you are reading some chess text and you want to try that position....

This way you coluld do it and much more important people would be encouraged to sharing it also...... and so on...

Erm... we are both saying the same thing.

Since the site overhaul the display of pieces already taken off the board is using a quite big piece size. I mean it's huge, a bit overkill in my opinion, they don't have to be anywhere as big as the pieces on the board.

Quite so. Once more than four pieces have been taken by each side, you can't see the whole picture without scrolling.

Avatar of grey_pieces

I noticed they were big, but I wouldn't need to scroll until 4 rows (7+ captures each or 13+ by 1 player and at least 1 by the other) because I'm fitting 6 per available 3 rows in the standard display.

I guess this is a resolution and/or board size thing. When I saw the large pieces, I wondered if  maybe they would scale as more material came off... guess not!

Avatar of RealSelf

yeah I want the size of these pieces reduced please

First of all, thanks for all the hard work improving the site yesterday. I noticed that there still seems to be a bug in the rating display for chess960: I think it still shows the player's normal chess rating in the seeks, even for chess960 games.

EMBED CHESS PROBLEM

Would it be possible to make the daily chess problem available to embed in members' websites?  I think most of us who have websites and blogs would be keen to use it.

With a suitable promo and link to chess.com it'd be almost certain to attract new members.

What a great idea -- I assume the idea is that you'd embed it one time and it would change to display the current puzzle each day?  It would be a good opportunity for exposure for chess.com as it's far more engaging than the simple widgets or badges that are currently available.

Could you please share how you found this?  It is not in the meus that I can see.  Thanks.

I saw it linked on another forum post, and as soon as I saw it I thought I would let satorichess know. If it's brand new, then I imagine a link will appear shortly.

EDIT - this wasn't where I found the link, but now I've discovered it I believe those interested should check out this thread (and help with feedback)

Others probably won't agree with me, but I think it would be a lot better if daily puzzles were posted in a form of a static position.

That way it would actually meant something if somebody solved it first and posted the solution, since it's popular to tell everyone that you were the first one. Maybe then members will start posting solutions and explanations rather than saying how it was too easy. And it may also start a real discussion about the puzzle.

First! To agree, that is :)

I like the interactive puzzles, but maybe the posts in the puzzle thread should all be tagged with some indication of how the poster solved the puzzle on their first try:

  • Not Attempted/Solved
  • Solved without Errors
  • Solved with Errors
  • Used "Solution" Button
Avatar of Paranoid-Android

Yes, that may also work, because at least some members will then try to solve a puzzle from the starting position. But this would be a lot of work for developers and we'd have to probably wait for a few months. I actually can't even imagine how could this be done, they would have to at least rewrite (if not remake from scratch) a lot of parts of the interactive puzzle board and the forum code.

It would be way quicker for us, and simpler for them, if they just started posting puzzles in static form - at least until they change the interactive puzzle board in a way you described.

Avatar of TheGrobe

No question it would be a big change, but I do like the interactive nature of the puzzle boards.  What about simply disabling the "Solution" button on them?

Avatar of Paranoid-Android

That's a very good idea! Of course they would also have to disable the "help" button. Some users might want to keep the "solution" and "help" button for their own puzzles that they post in forums - that could be done by giving them an option in the game editor. Member would select if he wants to have these two buttons in his/her own puzzle or not.
