Chess.com has FEN *and* an openings DB, but...

This site has an awesome games/openings database, but I'm pretty much obliged to enter positions manually by making moves (at least once the game goes off the main line of a book opening).  It's a bit laborious, so what I actually do is take the FEN from the Details tab of my game and plug it into a (inferior) web-based chess database that allows me to do so.  I'm lazy, ok?

But I'm also curious as to why chess.com puts the FEN value on the game 'Details' tab, given that the Explorer does not accept FEN.  We would pretty much *have* to be leaving the site (if only for a moment) to put this to good use (in a database search) - or for that matter, bad use (with an engine). 

Arguably, it would be better to lose the FEN and replace it with an "Explore" button that would send the current position to the explorer and display the results in a pop-up window (or something).  Just a thought.
