Chess.com Navigation Menu - Help Reorganize?

So.... we have a TON of stuff on Chess.com :( Help us reorganize it!? I'm open to your suggestions!! Here is how to do it - bold for the main links (currently in white above), and regular text with "-" for the sub-links.

What should we get rid of? What sould be moved? You can have up to 12 main links (we only have 11 right now - MY HOME is to be ignored). Also, you should add in the following somewhere :

- Game Explorer
- Book Openings
- Games Database

Some examples are that we can probably put downloads in directories, etc.

Is there a limit to the number of sub categories per main link?  Most things look good already i reckon..

Add  to Learn

- Game Explorer
- Book Openings
- Games Database  

Maybe move - Find a coach  to Members if there are too may sub links in that cat?

Possibly Events and News could be Merged into one?

Personally i would like there to be a section which is like News from Staff.. our first port of call for checking what new shiny things we have to play with after a server update etc ;)  As it is its hit and miss, looking for a chance post by yer goodself in the forum.

I agree with Erudite, it is hard to figure out what will change with each section without spending a lot of time tinkering with the settings.  

Also add themes in the FUN directory so it is easier to find it. 

Add Terms of Service to LEARN directory.  And encourage new members to read the Terms of Service and require all members to re-read who have been reported to Abuse for  having violated those simple rules.  Maybe that would reduce the inappropriate language, inappropriate photos, personal attacks etc., etc., and take a load off those responding to Abuse reports. 

In discussing new players, why not make a greeter game an option for new members?  On the sign up page, have a note, "Want more instruction or an introduction? Then click on "Greeter Game", the link would automatic pair the new member with a volunteer greeter.  That way the new member isn't just thrown into a game and left wondering what do I do now?  This may cut some frustration for both new members and greeters. The greeters would have games that new members wanted to play, and there would be fewer games timing out. 

I agree that most of the menu is good as is.  I also like the idea of adding "clubs" under Directories.  I can see putting "Game Explorer" "Book Openings" and "Games Database" under Learn.  But I think you could also add Databases to the main menu instead of Clubs and put those three items there.  Under Fun I would like to see a link to the "puzzles" posts that are linked to mainly through Forums currently. 

 I also like the three big buttons PLAY * LEARN * SHARE on the homepage.

I agree with WyoKid about the Play, Learn, Share buttons on the homepage, and maybe therefore it would be nice to also have Play - Learn - Share as menu's in the menu. The Play and Learn dropdown menu's are already there, so maybe you could add a Share-menu with for example News, Events, featured Blogs, Groups, Photo Albums, etc.

If the Play-Learn-Share menu setup is not so convenient, maybe you could consider giving users faster access to the most used things. For example, I think the Online Chess is by far the most used feature of Chess.com, so a menu for "Online Chess", with dropdown items like "My Games", "My Stats", "New Game", "Tournaments", "Settings" etc. could be useful.

It's getting tough to keep it all ordered. Maybe you should remove some features

IMHO you've done a fine job with the set up, and I'm pretty picky about such things and unreasonably intolerant of incompetence in this area. 

If there is no way to keep the menu from being blocked by adds could you not just rearrange things a bit with out changing them?  Change scares me.

Seriously though, thank you for helping the chess community come together and share in some really fun and interesting ways.

I think the main point of reorganising the menu system is to accomadate the new opening and game explorer sections. They could be put under the learn tab but I think because they are very cool new and important features, they probably deserve there own tab.

To make room for them I think we can get rid of the clubs, downloads and events tab.

Clubs and downloads already accessable under the directory tab. Clubs could also be accessable from members as well. Events could be put under the news tab.

I agree that those three big buttons Play Learn and Share were a great addition to the homepage!
