17 hours later, and the number still hasn't changed. It must only refresh once a day or something. I don't think that's the way it used to work. I remember when we crossed the 400,000 mark and we were all able to instantly identify who it was because the number was constantly updated. I wonder when it changed and why.
So if the total is only updated once a day, that will make the actual hour that it happens kinda hard to determine. But for reference purposes:
12/28 = 952,099
12/29 = 954,342
12/30 = 956,617
Looks like about 2,300 new members per day!!! That's more than I thought!!
At that rate, we should cross the 1,000,000 mark on January 18th.
Will are you keeping up with all these guesses??
I put them on my post on the front page just in case.
with nearly 1million players on chess.com, i have never seen more than 5000 players on line at any one time? and 141 thousand games are on the go at the mo, most people who play have many games going so to me, looks like a lot of dead wood in this million? JAN 24th 3PM by the way
we will be able to tell people the exact time and member when it happens ;)
Glad to hear it!!!

is it possible for 41,326 to join in the 30minutes GMT so 1,000,000 members on 1/1/10 at 12:00:00 so it happens on the hour but in the likely event of it not happening i will guess at 23/01/10 at 3:40PM GMT and a suggestion for Erik let the member Chess.com send out an email to all 1,000,000 members tell them who it is
Based on how much the number has changed between now and the time this thread was started, if the pattern continues Erik's guess should be right on the money!
