Chess.com's Millionth Member!!!
And the 1,000,000th member of Chess.com is...
this space reserved
It's Monday December 28th. It's just after 11pm Universal Time (6pm Local Time). And right now, Chess.com has just over 952,000 members. That means that there's only 48,000 more to go before there is officially A MILLION PEOPLE at Chess.com!!!!
I'm surprised at how quickly they get new members (I watched 10 of them come in within 5 minutes). Crossing the ONE MILLION mark will undoubtably happen before Valentine's Day, and will probably happen sometime in January!!
Anyone want to start an unofficial pool on when member # 1,000,000 joins? We'll make them 1-hour blocks.
I'll say January 22nd, in the 4pm hour (GMT).
What's your guess?

It will be later than most think because as more and more people join chess.com there will be fewer and fewer people left in the world who have not already joined thereby reducing the number who are eligible to join each day. The curve will begin to level off. Therefore I will win the free chess lesson from Cheater_1. (but I was really hoping for the poem)

a few million so there is more of a chance of it happening quicker than before and at the growth rate of humans then it will happen quicker then ever before

Okay, here's where I finally put those college math classes to use.
Number of members on 12/28-952,099
12/29-954,342
For a difference of 2,243
Number of members on 12/30-956,617
12/31-958,674
For differences of 2,275 and 2,057.
Number of members on 1/03/10-964,866
for a 3-day difference of 6,192 divided by 3=2,064
Number of members on 1/9-976,767 for a 6-day difference of 11,901 divided
by 6=1,983
S0 we add 2243, 2275, 2057, 2064, and 1983 and divide by 5 and we get
2124.4. This is the average number of new members Chess.com added daily
between 12/28/09 and 1/09/10!
Now we take 1,000,000-976,767(today's total) and we get 23,233 members left
to add.
Now we divide 23,233 by 2124, which is 10.9 days, or 10 days and 21.6 hours.
So it is currently 4:39 PM so the 1,000,000 member should be on January 20th
at 2:15 PM
However, since Rael has left Chess.com your poem can substitute as third prize.
Nice touch, I appreciate, never knew about Rael. Does anyone have any of his games on record and can post here? I always like to review any games especially by someone that ids recommended.
Why did he leave? Does anyone know?
Ah that's funny Paul, since I recall us having a few altercations. Ah well, memory does go with old age eh?
It is probably a good thing he left. There is no room for "shoot from the hip" types here at flesh.com
Aww Vic you can't be mean to me after I accepted your friend request on facebook, can you?
You're right, I will be nice. But you developed somewhat of a renegade persona during your absence. Just knowing you are back makes me feel saucy.
lol
LOL nice pyramid :)
ROFLOLOL:)
lets expand this pyramid. .
my guess is January 18th at 8pm eastern
I wonder what's the limit
I doubt there is a limit.
Yeah I agree as long as everyone does it
contributing to this is beneath me
I wish I had a witty remark to justify one more level. I'll come up with something.
I feel sorry for Erik who is probably wondering if he should ban us all :/
Erik won't ban us for this. It's a work of art:)
lol Erik is too nice to ban us. (my contribution)
Ok stop doing this
Stop! Don't do it! What if it doesn't work!
Yeah. We could get banned.
... Feb. 16
is that when the 1,000,000 member is coming or when this is locked because of so many quote on quote
I bet we can get the millionth quote before the millionth member signs up.
I am predicting here and now that the one millionth member will be a Swedish Photographer.
can we now guess what job they have

Great work, I have computed numbers since December 2008 and arrive at the same date as you did. I had 10.56 days.
I came out with the 19th when I calculated it

Yes, and you get an extra point if you can guess their interest or hobby.

I guess their hobby will be chess!
