Curious if during that time frame receiving assistance from others when a game was adjourned was permissible.  The acting was really good.

Absolutely. That's why they show the two teams analyzing the adjourned positions.

I doubt I'll watch it. I don't think sports in general work well as the subject of drama. I'd prefer to watch a documentary on Judit Polgar, I think.

That's a subject for another thread. This one is about chess. No sports in this series, at least in the episodes I've seen.

Nice movie

The show is amazing. It's gotten me interested in learning how to play chess.

The acting in the series was exceptional, especially the female star's and the world champion's. The last game was intense to me.

Very good show. I’d highly recommend it.

I guess I will say  that the best part of this show is that it will bring more women into the game...at least, until they get to this forum and see the various "Who's the hottest babe in chess!?!" threads, the creepy messages and inappropriate friend requests, and garbage like that.

i have only prime no netflix XD

nah

I found the movie so enjoyable that I watched the entire series in one sitting. For what it's worth I highly recommend it.

Good to see that they got their chess facts right. Nothing more annoying than chess/sport movies where it is obvious that the author and actors don't have a clue what they are talking about...

For the most part, yes, they depict chess accurately.  They missed a subtle move in one scene.  Who can name the scene / missed move accuracy?  It's ostensibly a move that placed the janitor's king in checkmate.  It was not, however. checkmate.

Opti would like this show because there is much discussion about Sicilian.

Major props to whoever can explain why it wasn't actually checkmate in that scene where the little girl supposedly mates the janitor.  This is a chess rule that many players into the 2000 elo level struggle to understand...

Same here.  It's a chess lovers dream come true.

If Pat, we've found common ground!  It's a good show about chess, front and center.

Herein lies the cruxt of the show.  This reverberates into many aspects of our lives.  I am loath, however, to comment further, lest I need to issue a spoiler alert.

Looks like mate to me.

During the adjourned games, the seconds and the players worked tirelessly to come up with a winning line; this was allowed and expected.  During the Cold War era, it was Fischer against the Russians because Fischer played his own games.

I loved "Queens Gambit"!  I watched the whole seven episodes in 3 consecutive evenings, saving the last episode for the third evening.

I just finished watching this series! It's so good! I'm getting inspired to play chess more now!

It looked to me as though the king was on the 5th rank, and the girl played a 2 square pawn-out move to issue the check.  In that case, her pawn could've been taken en passant.  I could be wrong, but that would've added more interest to the movie, as a small way for chess nerds to see something on one else would know about or understand.

I found this one quite interesting.

Cool to see how much time they invested to create and to improve real games.

(Of course there are still a few minor "mistakes". But the overall precision is remarkable.)

omgmikko

They are playing too fast and most of the time the players don't remember to write down the moves. They also talk too much during the games. But still the chess scenes are much more accurate than in any other film or series that I've seen.
