The proper place has been determined for about 50 years. It’s called… THE CLOCK.
when your clock is running, your opponents clock says “CONFIRM”. When you press it your turn is done. It turns into a clock.
next to the clock is a button that says, “RESET”. If you press this your move is reset.
Your timer doesn’t stop unless you press confirm or resign…one of those two buttons.

I was rated 1650ish 32 years ago. I’ve won 3 tournaments, one in Virginia, one in California one in New Zealand.
Every game I have lost on this app/game was due to an mis-drop caused by the UI.
I’ve won at least 4 games because of what I believe looked like an mis-drop caused by the UI.
I also believe I won several games due to clock/Timer run-out caused by the poor design and placement of the Confirm button.
this really needs to change.

sounds like you don't play video games much. learn to use the UI instead of complaining about it.
You also haven't though about lag, there are teeny tiny delays between what you do when it updates, it's not that precise.
I will also point out that online chess is very different from playing in person, you just need to learn.

Funny stuff. Nothing that I said would even remotely suggest I’m not a guy who has spent his entire adult life playing video games. My first gaming system was Atari in the 70s.
My kids grew up with controllers in their hands. One of them is now a Product Manager at Scopely.
This has nothing to do with lag, web socket, iOS, Android or any other excuse you can make… the design is poorly executed.
Why is the confirm move button so freaking stupid? It takes like 3 FREAKING LINES OF CODE to move it to a convenient place that doesn’t take WAY TOO MUCH TINE to get to it. This is the stupidest freaking design I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s like you don’t want people to be able to play properly. PLAYING ON A PHONE CAUSES ALL SORTS. I HAVE ONE BECAUSE PEOPLE HAVE DONE STUPID THINGS. I HAVE LOST BECAUSE PEOPLE DONE STUPID THINGS. IT IS THE MOST FRUSTRATING ASPECT OF THIS DESIGN AND YES, I’M YELLING RIGHT NOW BECAUSE IT’S STUPID
