Well, anyone making a video based on this thread should be aware of the legal pitfalls of doing so.
And chess.com paying people for work that is not theirs has something to do with chess.com

It's still copyright infringement. It's just not chess.com's problem, it's the uploaders. With minor exceptions for fair use, you can't just steal intellectual property.
Of course, in the internet age, no one cares. However, chess.com rewarding copyright violations is legally and morally dubious. You can't take credit (let alone money) for someone elses work.
It's a bit unfair that reposting Pixar's work will generate more positive feed back than a home made video, and hence the former is to win the prize.
You can find more information about copyright and the definition of fair use in YouTube's very own copyright centre.
Puchiko, I agree that it can feel good to express what your knowledge has to offer and believe you can help with your expertise. This is not a submission falsifying, mis-using, copyright violation of codes, etc etc. If it were? Our mouths and hands would be sewn up and cut off..........Recreational and in house small (tiny) prizes awarded no more than twice in a full years term is 100% legal and favored in a court of law.
Okay, back to me! I have already won! I read your comments and started to think that I can actually enter a blank video and gain the majority of votes......
At least try! Give it a go, eh?
This has just turned into a thumb war. People are automatically disliking everyone else's videos. We have to decide the winner differently.
That’s right! We’re offering $1,000 USD for the best promotional video!
Here’s how it works:
1. You create an amazing/unforgettable/hilarious promotional video for Chess.com.
2. Upload it to YouTube and then post the link below!
On January 1, 2012 we will give $1,000 to the person with the highest number of “positive” YouTube views. Positive views are calculated as total views x the % of “likes”. Example: 1,000 views x 92% likes = 920 positive views.
That’s it. No holds barred. Create any video you want. Create as many videos as you want. Make it informational and explain the site. Or dance around in a hotdog suit. Or make a mini movie. Or sing a song. Doesn’t matter. Get your friends to watch it. Get it posted on Reddit or Digg. All you need to do is generate positive views of your video!

Why are you guys counting Dislikes as demerits? The rules don't say anything about dislikes. Haters gonna hate, but it doesn't have to count. :)

Agreed. It should be only positive votes. People are just disliking each others' videos. Also, Youtube sucks. My views froze at 381. People are viewing and adding comments yet the views have been stuck there since yesterday. FML!

I'm not sure, but some might try to create multiple accounts to rack up the views and likes for his own video. I'm not sure if youtube allows multiple accounts or not though. :)
Your comments towards the copyright enfringment in question has absolutely nothing to do with chess.com but soleley rely on the uploader.
Therefore your comments and quarrels against such copyright enfringement should be made directly to the uploader on youtube or youtube themselves.
Posting here serves no purpose about such things though, as it has nothing to do with chess.com, Either the uploader or youtube :)
